I'm a cheapskate cynic. Any company that advertises on the billboards at the World Cup Final is spending more on advertising than on the product. Advanced Factors sell 5l of A5-spec oil for £16.42. Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.

Castrol oil is good stuff. Just as good as the other oils, like Comma, that meet the same spec. But there's no box to tick saying "I'd rather not donate a fiver/tenner to Fifa, with this purchase, thank you".
Ronseal is even worse. It's overpriced s t; it's quick peeling wood stain that's no better than B&Q's own brand. I know, because I made the mistake of painting my windows with it. After re-painting it annually for 5 years I finally gave up, sanded it all off and used the stuff the tradesmen use. Lasted years. One way or another, you pay dearly for the advertising. Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.

About 10 years ago I read in The Economist that Citroen's advertising budget equated to over £1000 per car. When you consider how low the 'wholesale' price of an average Citroen was, at the time, that was a fair old slice, maybe 10%. Went for a job as a human cannonball. Not the right calibre.

Sorry read the OP not the £11.50 for 4 litres tip. £18 for 4 litres seemed good until I read the later posting.
