I don't know Skywriter , but Martin 4X4 and Tonyrec are buying or have bought one , hopefully they might help you .
Nick at Yeovil is selling them btw here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Land-Rover-Discovery...dZViewItem
Pay attention to Nicks description where he says that you may need an upgrade for the 6230i ?
Which brings you right back to your question

I tried to update my software configuration on my 6230i but for some reason it wouldn't have any of it. I used it straight out of the box and it worked fine, although you need to keep the phone volume on or below 19 to keep feedback down. FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

As you've got a 2006 D3, you probably will need the software upgrade. It wasn't included in the VEP upgrades either. Best way to be sure is to put it in and try it - if it doesn't work, you need to head down to your dealers. Unfortunatly, it's not covered under warranty so they'll probably charge you - could be anywhere from free to £100 based on whats been said here before.
If they pretend that they don't know what to do, tell them to look at TSB LA419-05 IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

Confusing area this
Is Skywriter is asking about the 'firmware' on the phone rather than the Disco's software?
The phones are another issue, as although they are called 6230i they also have model numbers and it's based on these that the firmware upgrade is based, and can be found on Nokia's web site.
I just hoping mine will work when I get the car later this week Discovery 3 XS Auto, Stornaway, Active rear diff.

I've used quite a few 6230i phones in mine all with different firmware versions, one or two which didn't appear on the LR approved list with no problems. However, I did once try a 6230, probably one of the first released with it's original firmware, and it acted wierd at times, so chances are a 6230i with newer firmware is going to be ok. A Nokia service center can up, or downgrade it for you if you do have problems. IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
