| Transmission thump and Turbo rattle. |

You have probably seen my various posts on the question of Transmission Thump and Turbo rattle. Well a chappie came down from LR to drive, listen and measure the D3. The thump is play or backlash in the transmission and is within acceptable limits (so they say! but the Turbo rattle is not down to the Turbo at all. It has been diagnosed as a rattle from the Torque converter. Apparently the torque converter has some drive shafts in it which have 24 splines. If there is play is these splines it becomes quite obvious as "the rattle" The cure is to have a new torque converter fitted with only 12 splines on the shaft thereby cutting down the clearance to a much smaller ratio of the shaft. ZF are making these modified converters on an as required basis (so I am told). Does anyone have any knowledge of this problem and cure?
