when the car was originally delivered DAB was awesome and never cut out - anyone else experienced this ??

Paul I think you are correct..

I have a note, but I am not sure of the source, but taken when I was comparing FM, DAB & internet radio for home:-

Quote:
"During spells of hot weather particularly when the pressure is high, reception in some parts of the UK and particularly southern and eastern England is prone to interference & degradation"

my conclusion was to go with internet radio..

Yes all down to atmosphere/sun activity etc but FM also affected I've found - difference is DAB cuts out intermittently whereas FM is interference. Price we pay for scorchio! Big Cry

I agree that the DAB reception has been quite poor at times recently Thumbs Up

I can get about 6 stations on my DAB radio and it often just says no reception. It's been like that as long as I've owned it, to the point I don't bother any more.
Am I doing something wrong?
I auto tune and it find the 6 of which most I wouldn't listen to anyway. I tune up and down and find nothing more than the Auto tune found.
I'm told it's excellent but I find it a total waste of space. Could be me I suppose.

I should add that I live in Essex. Thumbs Up

There's been a long period of atmospheric lift caused by the recent hot weather. All sorts of European stations have been coming in on the FM band. DAB suffers because of the way it's transmitted as a Single Frequency Network (SFN) where all transmitters in a regional group transmit on one frequency, locked together by GPS timing signals. The lift allows other networks that are normally out-of-range to interfere with this causing the drop-outs we have been experiencing.

In the good old days of analogue TV co-channel interference could be seen as banding on the picture as a normally-too-distant transmitter on an adjacent channel was received more strongly during atmospheric conditions. In the improved (ahem) world of digital it's all or nothing in terms of picture: too much adjacent signal and all you get is a lot of pretty coloured blocks stuttering around Very Happy

Lost my Sky signal for a few minutes on Thursday night - was most Censored off as was in middle of a particularly gripping episode of 'Love Island'
