Gearbox Leak

Hi there, I just wanted to ask for some advice. There seems to be a leak from the gasket joint of the gearbox (or perhaps above and dropping down), can anyone advise of possible leaks from above this gasket or is it likely to be the gearbox itself..?

And if so, can anyone advise of the cost of a replacement and install of the mid-section of the gearbox..?

Pictures to follow, if needed.

Cheer, Stu

Here is a picture of the leaky gasket. The leak is coming from the fourth bolt along.

Looks the same as this...

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic128274.html

I've no oil patches on the drive so must be ever so slight, maybe just a tightening of a bolt or some gasket seal as per the thread attached.

Let me know how you get on Thumbs Up

Yeah that's not the gearbox but the transfer box.

I applied some gasket in a tube gunk I had in my tool box to the bolt head and re torqued to 35Nm.

Only done yesterday so yet to see if it worked but I'll update Thumbs Up

Hello all, I just wanted to provide a follow-up post on this thread. I took the car for an annual service today and asked them if there was anything amiss with the transfer box. They said 'not at all'. The mechanic asked if the patches on my driveway were iridescent at all? My answer was 'no'. Did they evaporate? 'yes'.

It turns out that there is an outlet pipe from the air conditioning that is above the transfer box, towards the left-hand side of the car. When water evaporates from the A/C it travels down to the transfer box and forms a drip - often mistaken for a leaky transfer box.

Thumbs Up
