Driveshaft release from hub
I am trying to replace the front lower suspension arms as a couple of the bushes are shot and one of the ball joints. Is there anybody who has the special Landrover tool to remove the driveshaft from the hub? I've tried whacking the end but seem to be getting nowhere. Are there any other tricks? I've found the tool for sale at £340 incl VAT but that seems rather a lot for something I'm only going to use twice.
They can be very very tight in the hub, I have a tool and when it starts to move the shaft it goes with hell of a bang. So if its not moving by hammering it then you need the tool.
Your a bit to far from me..

Drive shaft release
Thanks mate at least I know it's not just me. I managed to borrow a truck sized ball joint splitter locally but doubt if the nearest dealer is going to lend me the tool and I agree it is a bit far. I might just have to bite the bullet and pay up front.

Can you not knock something up, get some flat 5 or 6mm bar about 2" wide, drill two holes for the wheel studs, then drill a hole for a big nut and blot through the center. Then use a big nut and bolt to try and push the shaft out.?

Yeah had thought about it but better with wood not metal. Only third time I've done anything with Camel and the others were fixing winch, raised air intake, rear wheel carrier, changing to coil suspension from air and routine service. I think I might have to bite the bullet and buy the kit. Thanks anyway.

Like the sound of flacks idea.
could you find a local machine shop or sheet metal worker etc and get them to make it.
By the sounds of it you only need a plate with a few tapped holes putting in it, that's not going to cost £340 to make

I used a 6" 3 leg puller which worked well.

+1 for snailcoves suggestion, I have used generic 3 legged pullers to remove many seized driveshaft splines on Land Rovers and other cars but you do need to have disconnected either the top or bottom ball joint so everything has somewhere to go. The bit of kit in the link looks quite attractive.

I've used a hydraulic puller like above to remove mine. But I have had a case where I could not remove the spline from the hub, even when taken off the car and placed in 20 ton press. Good luck.
I usually wind the hub nut back on leaving plenty of slack, pop the socket on the nut and beat the carp out of the socket with a 2lb lump hammer
