yep - same same!

again - we're not talking about making off-road-mode available at 150 or 200km/h - just 80 or 100... and we're not talking about extended mode - just off-road-mode...

I want it - I want it!!!!!

Off Road Height Suspension over-ride

That is a definite necessity for Australian conditions. Many dirt tracks have high crowns which need a fair bit of clearance, but still travel at around 80-100KPH. I had my all independent Pajero raided by about 50-60mm and it was majnificent in those conditions - it did not suffer any reduction in stability and, as far as I could tell, did not cause any excessive wear in the CV joints due to slightly increased drive shaft angles.

Another advantage of the higher suspension was the greater travell available on compression, so hitting wash-aways and creek crossings at speed allowed it to just "whoosh" through without bottoming out as wsa often the case with standard suspension. May not be a problem with the Disco air suspension - I don't know, I don't get delivery of my ordered TDV6 SE until October.

Cheers
Martin

Man I would love a patch that can do this. My disco bottomed out three or four times when I was in Namibia in May. It was so bloody frustrating driving in convoy and either risk falling behind, or bottoming out. FACT – a lot of the tracks can easily be driven at 70-90km/h but have patches where the middle strip is a bit high – or on fast dirt roads when you cross a dry river bed – Now it means heavy braking (because most of the times you see it too late), engaging off-road mode and then crossing. Come on LR – we need it here in Africa – sometimes even on tar roads Big Cry .

There was a thread here a few months back about cheating it at the ride height sensors. Do a search.

Had a look at the said posts , the disco3 was raised higher than off road height so if I read correctly it was higher in all 3 height modes wich is not what I am asking for, I would just want to be able to use off road height at higher speeds , say up to 80kph. And it only needs to be in the "special programs" in other words not in normal driving mode. If the adjustments to the sensors are made then even access height and normal driving height would be higher by the value of which the sensors were adjusted, like a suspension raise. Might be usefull for somebody who want's that. Thanks anyways , still was very interesting and always good to know more about ones ride. Thumbs Up

I agree, with the uneducated assumption the wear angles at the higher speeds might be putting things like u joints blowing apart etc. Assuming you're willing to take those extra risks without confirming with LR engineers... I heard Charles at Rover Accessories had been able to customize his ride height, perhaps you shouldcheck with him.

Just got off the phone to LR South Africa. Apparently a fairly common request, but the default is set at 40km/h for safety reasons (ie. rollover), and they won't change it Big Cry

Well, that is no surprise. But it makes me wonder why they keep selling the Defender - should they not lower its susp for fear of roll-over Rolling with laughter So here we bite the dust because LR wishes to penetrate the US market. Great car - all round. Such a pity I have to envy the guy driving past in his Cruiser with lekker lift suspension. Cant’ believe I just typed that. Need to go wash typing hand with soap immediately.

Anyone know Bruce Davis in Sydney well enough to go have a chat to him - he does some chip remapping on the performance side...

Yes, I've tried it and yes, it works. I wouldn't be comfortable with this as a permanent fitting, but for the occasional rocky mining road trip, it works a treat.

Cheers,
