Odd Sound from Rear Wheel / Suspension
This is a strange one. High pitched squeak from around the rear OS wheel. It resonates in time with the rotation of the wheel. It is not changed by applying the footbrake. No change when turning to left or right. Only noticeable up to about 20mph at which point I think the pitch and road noise drowns it out.
My immediate thought was a bearing starting to fail. However, here is the odd part - with car stationary, if I lightly jump up and down on the side step, I get the same squeak which suggests it is coming from a bush or a suspension part. Why the squeak should resonate in time with the wheel rotation I don't understand. I am assuming the bearing would only emit a squeak whilst turning.
Spent some time with my son trying to trace it but really difficult.
I did the V8 upgrade to front and rear a month or so ago. So all brake parts are new. The handbrake bedding in procedure was completed. I have also re-set the handbrake shoes again in case I had not done that properly. This was done before I realised I could get the squeak whilst the car was stationary!
Thoughts?2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.
Sounds like the upper or lower (Normally upper in my experience) hub bush has gone.
Easy change though with the right tools Mark.

Thanks Mark. I presume these are the bushes in the upper arm, so three bushes on each arm. I will make up an improvised stethoscope and have a proper listen.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

The joint is in the hub housing, the outer bush is separate from the arm
there are two bushes in the upper wishbone also.
Usually the upper or lower hub joint bushes squeaking

So I could be looking for the bush in the hub carrier that looks like this http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/bsk7283-r...-153-p.asp
as the point of failure. Presumably I will need to jack up the corner and use a bar to ID the movement.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

Just something to check, that I noticed on mine, is the brackets that support the p/brake cables wear, leaving sharp edges, these can cut into the cable protection and eventually reach the metal cable casing, (luckily mine hadn't worn anything much, other than the brackets which were quite worn at a mere 65k miles). But I would imagine metal to metal contact here, would cause a continual squeak from this area whenever the suspension arm moves.

You can protect the EPB cable by slipping some 1/2" hose over the cables, secured with cable ties.

However I would think that your noise is the EPB shoes dragging. Freelander SE 2005 Auto.

Stationary, in park with the EPB off, the EPB drum could well move fractionally, causing a squeak. I get a squeak as my suspension is raised, but only if I don't apply the EPB. When I investigated, I found the wheels rotate a surprising amount as the suspension hight changes. Jumping up and down on the side step could cause a similar effect.Freelander SE 2005 Auto.

I must say that the EPB shoes was my first thought which led me to take the wheel off, wind back the adjuster and readjust. If I can't see any failing parts or rubbing metal I will go back and remove the drum and recheck everything and rebukd and adjust.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

Nodge68, you are right about the wear on the bracket. Not sure if that is the source of my squeak but have greased it up and will wait and see. Because it is intermittent it is hard to know if fixed.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

Do my mod the brake cable for protection to both components
My money is on the EPB shoes dragging slightly though.
