confused...it's not that difficult!
Hi all, as a new owner of a disco 3 4.4 v8 I was surprised to see an article in Lro int stating the cambelt needs changing at 150,000, as mine's already on 140,000 I thought I'd seek some advice on here as I thought it didn't have a cambelt? any advice much appreciated.

Chains, sprockets and tensioner so don't last forever! there must be a recommended service mileage, age is irrelevant for a chain a snapped chain has the same consequences as a snapped belt- dead engine. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

No cam belts just 4 duplex cam chains, but don't worry, unlike the diesel cam belts, they give some warning of problems such as timing problems or noisy chains, but no sudden failures. Unless you're prone to the odd drag strip run at Santa Pod There are no service intervals for the 4.0 V6 or 4.4 V8 cam chains mentioned in the service manual.
We do have 2 belts for ancillaries though, which, irrespective of manufacturers recommendations, should be checked regularly for defects. The primary (serpentine)belt runs the alternator, steering, A/C & water pumps and the Secondary belt runs the cooling fan.
Service manual for these reads;
Ancillary Drive Belt
1. Check the condition of the ancillary drive belt.
2. Remove all traces of mud and dirt from the drive belt and pulleys.
3. Check the drive belt for signs of splitting and wear.
CAUTION:When vehicles are operating under arduous conditions, the following service items must be carried out every 5 years or 75,000 miles (120,000 km).
4. Every 7 years or 105,000 miles (168,000 km) - 4.0 Litre engine: Replace the ancillary drive belt. For additional information, refer to Accessory Drive Belt (303 -05A )
5. Every 10 years or 150,000 miles (240,000 km) - 4.4 Litre engine: Replace the ancillary drive belt. For additional information, refer to Accessory Drive Belt (303 -05B )

Good post from Alphamale.
The two belts are an easy DIY change. I think the belts are £30 for the pair. Google Atlantic British on youtube; the guy does a good video (there are lots of good vids on the LR3 that they've done).PAGODA

Makes you happy owning a V8 when you dont have to worry about the Cambelts change, EGR blanks, cambelt tensioner mount failure, body off turbo replacements.
Ill settle with a few less MPG and a nice sound to get rid of all that! 8)
Although this morning I would have liked a FBH 05 V8 HSE Bonatti Grey
