I ordered a new D4 HSE in March just as the factory stopped production to move over to MY16. The changes are small but the engine will be EU6 which has apparently been achieved by adding an addblue system and all that that entails, extra tank/filler/control system etc.
So is it a good idea to buy a new D4 now or should I wait and see what happens?Volvo XC60 - does all that the D4 should have done

How long are you going to wait? Problems might take years to manifest themselves, like the 07MY oil pump failures. If you're not happy then prob best to get a MY15 instead.

I had a merc ml hire car with addblue in Germany and it did not make a difference other than having to put some addblue in the tank.....it still went like the clappers😊Sill protection - LED internal lights - LED reverse lights - boot liner - Dog Guard - Rock sliders

Adblue is basically refined pigs . They add it to the exhaust to combine with the exhaust gases to clean them up and get rid of harsh gases before they exit the car. Its all to do with the chemical change the adblue does to the gases when they mix.

Adblue definitely doesn't worry me; I'd be happy with the 3% improvement in the official test figures, 5% CO2 reduction (for a small amount of protection against future CO2 based taxation) and the fact that the spare wheel is now FOC!

Weirdly when E6 trucks came on line July last year the power and economy were both up.
When Adblue first came out on trucks, E4 56 plates onwards it was fine for a short while then the next 5/6 years everyone was playing catch up to learn the tech as they broke faster than people could fix them!
Plus the adblue gear was not up to the job and kept getting superseded.
You can now get emulators for the trucks just like the egr ones for D3/4.
On the trucks the E6 models have and SCR cat a DPF and an Ammonia cat so assume the cars wont be far behind.

All trucks in the EU have had to run adblue since 2007. Therefore the technology has been well and truly tested for millions of miles....our horsebox runs adblue and other than occasionally filling the adblue tank you would never know its there....don't be frightened ! Go for it!

My new A6 requires adblue. Lots about it on the forums, general moan seems to be the "hidden" cost of filling the adblue tank up every 6000 miles or so.
The car sends up a dash warning to "fill in 600 miles or engine will fail to start " so electronically immobilised.
Guess it should be simple enough to bypass the components.....Defender 90 CSW MY06

You actually have another fuel level type instrument on the dash which tells you how full it is....it lasts ages and ages so don't expect that you have to fill it up all the time....I probably put in one tank of adblue for every 5 tanks of fuel... Most petrol stations now sell it so I don't envisage it would ever be a problem..

I doubt it would shut down completely when the ad blue runs out but just go into a significantly reduced power mode, this is what most if not all ad blue equipped lorries do.
