I presume the vehicle will shutdown when the adblue tank is empty.

Just means we have to carry another item in our bits & bobs/just in case box. Thumbs Up

Seems like bit of a PITA and more eurobollox. Oh well, guess there's no getting away from it now.

Would the car notice if you just filled the adblue tank with water?

As I understand it you get lots of warning before it runs out and, unlike fuel, the vehicle does not quit on you when you run out; it just prohibits starting.

Isn't AddBlue fairly cheap? As long as you don't have to buy it from LR Parts that is. Rolling Eyes

I'm glad I don't have to live on the side of a busy main road anymore, but I remember being woken up by the smell of exhaust fumes. It doesn't get much worse than that.

Anything that makes life easier for the poor sods that have to breath this stuff can't be such a bad thing?

I'm just sceptical of these systems. The value they add is calculated in a lab, a little bit like economy figures.

AdBlue isn't ideal, but doesn't worry me. I won't need to think about it for a few years yet having taken a Disco Sport with the old engine.

I think VW charge £1.50 a litre for AdBlue, which includes fitting going by their website.

The buses at work have been running with it since 2007, though at the time there was a big fear now it's the norm, our Volvo B7 coaches which were the first on the fleet to use AdBlue have been pretty reliable, it's plaxtons rewiring when the bodies are fitted that cause electrical faults on them. They are now at 750,000mls on the clock, they should've been replaced last year but will be replaced with the Volvo B11 EU6 coach in September. We keep them for 7 years normally.

One thing is the AdBlue Volvos and Alexander Dennis vehicles are far more reliable than our MANs which are constantly in with EGR problems.

So is the adblue engine going to have egr's as well?

I'm not 100% but am sure it is this stuff that is adding thousands of pounds in repair costs to local trucks, with running a vehicle in towns / short runs the exhaust doesn't heat up properly, a fault found with cats but this was solved with a good 'burn out'. Once the adblue enters the exhaust if it is not hot enough it will solidify and go rock solid, this can not be rectified and requires a new exhaust.

As I say I'm not 100% it's the adblue as it was a quick chat quiet a while ago but it was only effecting the newer trucks.
 So far Fiona has:
TRC front winch bumper / GG AT tyres
Warrior 9500s winch / Aux Fuel tank
Mantec sump guard / Kaymar rear bumper w/swing away
RI D2 light pair / de-cat exhaust
RI 10in flood/spot bar / LR puddle lights
Optima yellow top / Prospeed tree/rock sliders
Spilt charge system / Light guards
