Yorkshire Dales - suitable for one vehicle |
|
Hi All.
The Dales day out from a few weeks ago looks absolutely fantastic...!! Unfortunately I didn't even have my Disco back then...
SWMBO and I are off to Clapham this weekend, near Settle and I'd like to take the car to some of the more scenic parts of the world.
Are any parts of the route do-able as a single vehicle, ideally avoiding the narrow gateways??! Alternatively, does anyone have any suggestions for lovely scenic routes to take in some lanes and fords at least for a nice day out?
Thanks in advance!
Fluff.

Many of the lanes we did are drivable by a single vehicle. If you pm me your email address I'll send you a gpx file of some easy ones when I'm at my PC later.
However, going alone even on very easy lanes is a risk. If you break down or make a mistake and put a wheel in a hole, who's goingto tow you back to tarmac? Even changing a wheel on rough ground is risky without suitable equipment and help. MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

Hi buddy, had my disco six months and itching to go out next month with a couple of my mates, trouble is I don't know anywhere to go. Can't read the map numbers for jack. Any tips of any good lanes to try and how to get there? Not wanting to get chased off the fields or come across angry walkers just lookin to enjoy the car with the lads for a weekend. Probably looking to camp too. Any help would be great . Thanks

Hi Leesy, if you're not good with maps, then you stand a very good chance of getting in to trouble. Either you might try to drive somewhere illegal or just simply impassible.
Your best bet will be to join a group of other people who know where to go and what to expect (and who can try to keep you out of trouble).
The Green Lane Assosciation (www.glass-uk.org) is a good place to start. The North Yorkshire group have a monthly meeting near Pool on the last Wednesday of the month which is an opportunity to meet people and arrange to go out with a group.
There are other green laning clubs around as well.
Another option if you want to get your Disco muddy is something like the Kielder Safari (Hairy Dan is your man for that) MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

If you mean Gorebeck Road, it is very scenic but also very TRO'd and very illegal to drive! MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added
