D4 2010 body roll & driving feel
just got myself a D4 HSE (2010) which i was looking forward too.
it had to go in for some minor work and they lent me a new HSE 2015
and I wish they hadn't as the difference in driving experience is worlds apart from mine.
Now I know mine is 4 years old, but the comparative body roll is unreal.
The question is should it be?
should I really notice that much difference or is there something wrong with mine.
I know the new 2015 is aluminium so lighter etc etc
After driving the 2015 model, still 3 weeks later I feel mine drives like a lump, turning seems very laboured and under-steering, feels very sluggish on steering response and like I said body roll seems unbalanced.
getting to point where think I'm starting to feel disappointed.
Does anyone think there is a problem. Is there any way to reduce the body roll, perhaps uprated bushes or something (sorry I'm not very mechanical)
I so want to enjoy my d4.
thanks for any feedback.Loving my D4 HSE -MY10......!!!!

What sort of mileage do you have on the D4? Front bushes wear out at quite low mileage. My d3 had new lower arms at 63k miles. The car was transformed. Like you I didn't realise the car felt soggy
Very little body roll on our 2010 but it has only done 37k milesD4 2010 HSE Santorini Black

No... it's of identical construction as yours.
Could be tyre related if you haven't already checked them ...but sounds to me as though you need a full survey of your suspension bits 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Take a look at AF factors for prices. They also do different versions of the bushes. I went for the middle ones which haven't ruined the ride.

bought from Stratstone Main dealer only a few weeks ago, and already had issues with the vehicle on delivery as it wasn't prepped properly at all (was an interdealer transfer and they were let down by the other branch. But to be fair they have dealt with everything so far.
Remaining problems are:
I think gear changes seem lumpy at times (especially at low speed seems to be not engaging the right gear 1st time.
When I pull up with car in Drive and foot on break - car vibrates - seems like its trying to pull too much.
I think its seems sloppy.
If it needs a survey of suspension - surely they would have done that (then again not in their interest to find anything and spend a fortune on correcting it I suppose)
How would I get a suspension survey. Dont know where to start really.
So disappointed starting to loose heart in the car. I've wanted a D4 for so long, finally got it and now I dont feel like driving it.
any help really appreciated.Loving my D4 HSE -MY10......!!!!

Is the latest 2015 model the same construction as 2010 then?
if so then there has got to be a problem. the 2015 model felt nibble and went where I pointed it. Mine feels lumpish and takes hard steering to get it were I want it.
Understand that of course mines 4 years old, but has only just got 50k on the clock.
Mine feels "heavy" compared to latest model.

If wheel alignment is out, it can make a significant difference.

ISTR Stratstone do a "if you don't like it you can swap it for another one within 4 weeks" offer
My D3 is 10years old and that doesn't wallow on corners or feel stiff and clumbersome, drives nearly as good if not better as the day I bought it over 10 years ago .
Take it back and tell them you are not satisfied, it could be anything from low tyre pressures to anti-roll bar bushes, wheel alignment, lower steering column ETC,ETC.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

cool thanks so far for all the advice so far.
What is a lower steering column??
Wheel balance and alignment just been done. Even got them to swap tyres front to back just in case was anything to do with it.
I will contact them on Monday now as other items still pending so will ask to test drive another one as they another 2010 there so I can compare.
I'd still rather someone with more knowledge/experience took a look.
Anyone know anyone in Cotswold/Gloucestershire/Bristol area?
My main concern is that I feel its a significant different drive to the 64 plate they loaned me, even taking into account age difference. Loving my D4 HSE -MY10......!!!!
