Misting Up

All of the cars I have owned in the last 10 years have had fully automatic climate control. I only ever use two settings on the climate, auto and max defrost - have never seen the need for anything else. Once all the windows are demisted/defrosted in a car with climate control I leave the climate on auto. In the D4 however I noticed that after about an hour of driving in damp/cold conditions the front and front side windows all starting to mist up and I have to direct the air to the screen to clear.

I've never had this before in any vehicle with climate (and not in my previous D3 if I remember correctly). Its a very minor picky point but do others with D4s experience the same? The car is dry throughout so no leaks or damp inside and before some smart ar$e suggests it no I don't have the recirculate button pressed!

That is not right at all. Mine never mists up when set to Auto, whatever the conditions. If the AC is removing the moisture from the air then there is simply not enough to condense back on to the windows.

I would say it needs looking at just to make sure your selections are actually doing the right things.

Gas leak in the AC? When did you last have it checked/re-gassed?

Hmmm didn't think it sounded right. The a/c was working fine in the summer. Is it likely that it might need re-gassing after 4 years (assuming there is no leak)?

To be clear the condenstation that forms is only slight but it is enough for me to have to change from auto to screen for 5 minutes every hour or so to clear.

This does happen on quite a few cars once the temperature gets down to 2-3c and lower. You might have a problem though as it is hard to gauge how bad it is without seeing it. I often put on the heated front screen to help.

My D3 has always done this..

i.e misted up in selected places - always when its very cold outside & CC on Auto.
The AC has always been to pnotch & full of gas
a few seconds blast on program cures this

does the CC re claibrate function work on D4's as well as D3's ?

Not sure how to initiate the calibrate on the D4, for a start there isn't an 'Econ' button Confused

I can't really comment on the D4, but after my P38 was about 5 years old, the aircon just didn't seem to be as efficient as it had been, and I did get a bit of misting. I had it pressure tested - no leaks found, and then had it re-gassed and it was still fine when I sold it another 5 years later.

Could be a blocked or damp pollen filter, or some dampness in the car. Check in the cableway under the passenger side carpet. You may find it wet in there.

Mine mists when there are damp dogs/bodies or golf equipment in the car. Soon clears by hitting the demist function.

The only time mine has misted up was when I had a water leak from sunroof, now that is fixed & dried out I have no issues.

I know the question is about D4, but for what its worth, my D3 was always clear until the AC stopped and then it was the side windows that started to fog up, in particular those above the boot area.

In my experience, if there is a water leak and dampness in the car, that is normally more noticeable on a cold morning with condensation on windows, in particular sloping windows such as windscreen or tailgate (but less in Discovery with vertical window)

Mine mists up occasionally on auto.

The car sometimes decides to maintain a nice comfortable cabin temperature by only using the lower vents, it doesn't blow any air through the demister vents, so the windscreen and side windows get a bit of mist.

Using the buttons to redirect the airflow solves it.

It doesn't do it very often - most of the time it works perfectly on auto. It must just be a particular set of conditions that cause it to not demist.
