So you want LR to "replace" the towbar that you don't have, for a fixed towbar Foc , without them being able to check if it has too much play in it? Somehow I don't see that happening I'm afraid.

I understand your logic... however, if they have a safety concern regarding the use of the tow bar the car was fitted with previously... so much so that they are recalling them... then surely it is irrelevant if the old one is there... as by their own admission it is not fit for purpose...
So requesting one that is fit for purpose under this letter wouldn't be too bad would it?
Otherwise I might be buying a tow bar that is not fit for use.
I know its a long shot..... so if anyone has already had their 'worn' one replaced and kept the original.... can I borrow it for my visit to a dealer?? ha haMany Thanks

I can appreciate what you are saying, but to be honest, how is LR going to know if you even had a towbar in the first place let alone a worn one? What would stop anyone walking in of the street saying can you give me a fixed towbar Foc please?
Just my thoughts

I pull nearly two tonnes of caravan for nine months of the year covering most of the UK and Western Europe. It's our pride and joy and we love the freedom it affords us. I have my D4 in for checking on 15th Jan to see if any wear has occurred to the setup. If I find that LR are not prepared to swap the detachable tow bar for the heavy duty kit, I've seen a Witter multiheight tow bar set up on the Bay of E for £234.90. Is this what LR use or is theirs even more man for the job?
After the suggestion that the current tow bar I have is prone to falling off I'd rather fit a better, more permanent solution myself if LR don't.FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

But how could it be classed as misuse if you either tow a caravan or fit a bike rack surely that is why it's called a TOW HITCH and they are land rover genuine parts that cost an awful lot of moneyDiscovery 3 se gone

Could be deemed misuse if the detachable tow ball is left connected after use, ie between towing journeys. Just a thought??? Transit Custom LWB
