Sticky steering wheel - decent cover?

I've had the normal tacky wheel problem on my D3 for the last few years. It seems to me that spending almost £200 for a replacement is a bit ott.

Has anyone found a decent steering wheel cover?

The smooth steering wheel is a very nice addition to a Disco 3, and as said, worth every penny Thumbs Up

Hi. My steering wheel has got progressively sticky over the past couple of weeks too. I tried cleaning it today with a damp cloth an it was absolutely black, however it's still sticky. Is the only option to replace or re-cover ?

Recover

Hi
I can arrange an exchange for you you tell me if you want leather in smooth perforated or non perforated
And you pay me and I get a steering wheel redone for you.
I send the new one to you and you then send me your old one job done
Cost is between £160 to £ 180 depending on what you want
Cheers

It was far cheaper for me to buy a new one from nick, than it was to have it recovered and I didn't relish the idea of using my car without a steering wheel while it was being re-covered Whistle

Garym, the wheel is not treatable in any way long term. The problem is the covering is not quality leather, but what's known as skim, the second layer of the hide that has been treated and sealed, the only option is to save up and change or recover.

Nick TLO has hinted at a grip buy on his return, or you could do as i did and get it covered, the service Mike is offering uses the same guy, but as I'm local I called in to see Paul and dealt direct, you can do the same if you near the midlands or can get at a spare wheel for a week Thumbs Up

I have the one I used as a spare in the garage Whistle , its actually in good nick still, I re covered the worst one Very Happy

Thanks all. I had a feeling that a decent cover would do the trick for less than a new steering wheel. Can't believe there's not something out there that is up to the mark and would knock a zero off the solution price!

Well now there is a decent cover.
Smooth Napa with Perforated Leather..... ideal for your tacky or basic wheel.
You just stitch it in yourself [or get a trimmer to do it for you]

And it just so happens I've got a brand new one for sale.

I'm sure I read a while ago about folks using nail polish remover and cotton wool pads to clean their sticky steering wheel
Try doing a search for it

Thumbs Up
