Here is my mini instalation. Its Android dual-sim phablet 6" - GoClever Quantum 600.

Fit perfectly, only ingerention in car was little hole for charging cable. Phablet doesnt require any handle/holder it just fit in hole
I'm also install iClever Himbox HB01 Bluetooth Hands-Free Car Kit with 3.5 mm Aux Input Jack - its Bluetooth HID and A2DP device connected to AUX, it has intergrated microphone, so only 2 cables are connected: USB for power (shared with phablet) and AUX for audio. It has remote control buttons, and can be connected with 2 phone at once!

On Android I'm using Torgue OBDII, Tasker for automatization, Deezer for streaming audio and Yanosik (local trafic app).

Next step in my instalation will be remote control Android through steering wheel buttons. I have almost complete module that will "translate" resistive ladder to Bluetooth keyboard. Simple, cheap and easy.
At end - my Discovery:

Nice mod.
Have some questions: how do you keep this device all time running while driving? And how does it shut down when you turn off ignition - automatically or manually? And do you have any illumination / brightness problems on a sunny day?

Now it works full automatic because I made root on Android
I have Tasker app with profiles Power On (when car is started) and Power Off. Tasker turn on 3G, Wifi, Bluetooth, set screen timeout to never off, starts Torque app and when internet connection is available then starts Hotspot and Yanosik app. When Power Off its revert those settings and kill apps to save battery. Phablet turn off 10 sec after engine off.
I dont need to touch phablet, its fully automated
Phablet has IPS screen with very good viewing angles and brightness even in sunny day.

Yanosik is a really great application - I use it everytime I come across Poland.
By the way - according to yours pictures looks like there is addditional space for tablet, haven't you tried to fit much bigger tablet? Maybe 7 inch do the work?

Nice mod
Been thinking of trying to install a couple of these in my headrests for the kids as I have a wireless portable hard drive with loads of films on so would work well with these.
Can you see any problems with trying this mod?

I didnt Android phones automatically activate display when You connect power. You need only to set up Display Time Out to 1 hour (or other high value) when phone charges and 5 seconds when no external power source is connected.

Looks awesome, I really wanted to do a similar thing with my Jaguar but never got around to it.

Long time passed. I've change it to Nexus 7, then to Nexus 7 II, Lenovo S8-50L. Now updated my setup with Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4. It's biggest tablet that will fit, great screen with sun light, high performance. It will stay here for a longer time, I think
