You can remove the screen quite easily .. it's only if you remove the head unit ( radio ) that can cause issuesG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

People keep saying this but my local audio man reckons there is no problem. He is proposing to fit a Kenwood DNX 9150 DAB and all it requires is a £150 fitting kit. He's putting an iPad mini where the current screen goes.
Should I be worried??

On another thread on this matter robbie says as follows:
Robbie wrote:
As Mike says, the high-line IHU (Integrated Head Unit) unit also integrates with the navigation system, touch screen display and GPS (global positioning system) antenna. It is also the Bus Master for the MOST system and contains the timing master for the MOST system.
If all of this is being replaced with functionality of the new unit, with the amp remaining in situ and being communicated with via the adaptor kit - are there any other problems?D3 07 SE - still going strong

Anything on the most bus ( amp / tv / sat nav / TMC / Bluetooth / RSE etc ) won't work if you remove the head unit .
In addition to that , you will be unable to set the settings on the dash ( clock etc )
Be interesting to see what they are going to use to interface the amp ?
If they can't , then all the speaker wires would have to be redirected from the amp to the new radioG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Good. It is all being replaced by functionality of the new unit

OK will check on that

I don't know. All I know is that it is £150 plus VAT, which is significantly more than the £11 kits you see on Amazon so maybe it's a Kenwood kit?

I am informed that the kit negates the need to replace the wiring system to the speakers. The existing amp is remaining in situ. Hence labour now £200 and not £600.
Thank's for your help Wiggy. x

Good to see this works
A couple of questions do any of the volume or phone control switches on the wheel work?
Do you have full control over the existing sound system speakers?
What happened to the clock and information on the dash does it still work?

Nice set up - I use the same BT adaptor as OP and its performance is pretty good for such a cheap buy. I'd need to double check but sure it was only £15ish off Amazon.
Like the idea of changing out the HU as described though - looks very smart!John
