D4 Remote Climate (FBH) Running Time MY13 - Inc Test Results
I have been test running the Remote Climate (FBH) on my MY13 and I am a little disappointed. The run-time seems overly cautious, presumably to reduce battery issues, to the point of being a bit of a joke.
From first plip to the start of the cool-down phase is a little over 17 minutes. Put another way it does its pre-start, then provides heat for a little over 15 minutes and then does a 3 min cool-down for a total a little over 20 minutes. The battery is fully charged and the car was hooked to a Ctek in supply mode so it was not short of power.
This seems pretty rubbish compared to the BAS FBHIC that provides 30 minutes of heat or more to a D3. After running the D4 Remote Climate on a full cycle with an OAT of +8 deg C the dash temp gauge has not moved and the heat provided to the cabin is uninspiring.
So is there anything I can do to make it run longer such as getting a CCF parameter adjusted?

Hi Adrian,
Sounds quite dumb. I can understand shutting down early if it detects a poor voltage but this is tantamount to removing the feature altogether, or at least its usefulness, whilst still charging for it.
Is there anything that can be done to boost the time or is there no way of editing the parameters?

It appears to me that it is also very ambient temp dependent. When it was around 2c it warmed the interior quite well, today it was 9c and it barely warmed it internally. Have noticed this on quite a few occasions, both cases the batt was fully charged via a CTech.

I thought mine ran for longer when I tested it yesterday morning ...have to get a stopwatch out but I was quite happy with the warmth in the cabin given that it was just above freezing
EDIT in fact the 2013MY manual states :
SWITCHING ON
Press and hold the ON button for
approximately two seconds. The LED will
illuminate to confirm that an automatic heating
program has been initiated. The LED flashes
once every 2 seconds to indicate that the heater
is active
The heating program will continue for 30
minutes, when it will switch off automatically to
prevent the vehicle battery from discharging. It
also turns off automatically if the engine is
started.
The system may not operate, or will switch off
automatically, if:
• If the fuel level is low.
• If the vehicle’s battery charge is low.
• If the coolant temperature is at or above its
required temperature.

Yep, same in my manual too but from Adrian's post it looks like LR keep turning the wick down. Bit of a pity for those who protect the battery with a Ctek as a matter of routine.
I feel my first D4 complaint coming on - 17 minutes does not remote climate make!

I'm going to re-check my run time first thing in the morning 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Rich,
Planning on doing the same tomorrow and perhaps making a note of the coolant temp over time - presuming it is happy to run with me in the car!Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Does it not say the time ( 20mins etc ) on your timed climate screen ?G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

It will run until you start the motor so sitting in is fine ...as opposed to the FBH on the D3 which used to shut down when you unlocked the motor 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I've only done it via the remote plip so far and it keeps flashing green well after the FBH has stopped.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Adrian ...the manual says this for timed climate setting via the screen
When activated, the heating program will
operate for 20 minutes at ambient
temperatures of -20 °C (-4 °F) and above, or for
30 minutes at ambient temperatures below -20
°C (-4 °F). Then the heating program
automatically switches off, to prevent the
vehicle battery being discharged21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

OK ...outside temp 4oC ...HEVAC set to 22oC...from pressing the blip to shut-down was 17m 45secs.
Observations -
The FBH 'sounds' far more effiecient than the old D3 one which used to gurgle like a boiling kettle. The D4 one sounds like a mini jet engine.

The D3 heater was a Thermotop V, I believe they have changed to Thermotop Evo on the later D4 models due to V not being produced anymore.
The Evo is (according to sales info on the webasto course) a more effiecent and enviromental friendly heater.
Where more parameters are analysised and heating adjusted.
However I have never seen effiecent and enviromental friendly work together before so am thinking its sales / marketing trick.IDTOOL PRO / Faultmate programing and BAS remaping services in Norway.

TVM as I have not even got dressed yet and there is a cooked brunch on its way!
The difference in sound must also be heavily influenced by the lack of intake silencer on the D4. Good news about the cabin but did the engine coolant temp gauge on the dash move at all? I'm wondering if the revised plumbing and pump means that the heat is driven more around the HEVAC matrix rather than the entire engine as it was on the D3?
If true it makes a lot of sense and would explain the extra valves on the later D4s but I don't have topix for the D4 to be sure.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
