stranded in france, any ideas?
Hi all,
rewind to Tuesday last week, just started my two week holiday in France. Driving along and get the following alarms: hdc fault, special progs not available, suspension lowered and finally parking brake fault. I stop the car and restart, all clear, complete my journey of about 20 miles. Two days later the same happens, stop restart, all ok, but happens again within a mile. This time i stop but cannot restart due to flat battery. Car recovered to nearest garage where they replace alternator and battery, this takes time as they have to get parts from uk so i eventually collect Tues this week. However same problem within 20 miles but car restarts each time. Recovered back to garage who now say the car is too complex for them. Can't get the car to a LR dealer anytime soon so car is moved to a different garage (RAC choice). Get a call from garage to say they can't find any obvious problem and two 25 mile test drives completed without fault, however on my test drive with the mechanic same problems occur. Garage number 2 now defeated. Any ideas anyone? Repatriation is at rac's discretion so concerned that the car will be stuck in France while they try to find a garage to fix it. Many thanks, any help hugely appreciated, David.

The mechanic showed me a list of codes, it seemed endless to me. David.

Something as simple as the brake light switch or a brake light bulb?

The brake lamps are ok, i assume the switch is therefore ok? Maybe not! Does the brake switch thing cause the suspension to go low? On the test drive we monitored the battery at 13.75v, after 20 miles is slowly dropped to 13.66 at which point the fault occurred. It seems like a charging problem to me?

Is the alternator the correct one? I'm sure I read on here once that non genuine ones can cause all sorts of running problems & error codes.2005 D3 TDV6 SE Manual

At a cost of 1200euro for alternator and battery it sure ought to be OEM. They had to get it from the uk, I'm sure it will be the right one, the battery is def LR, as i checked it before i paid!

TBH you got symptoms of what was happening to me with fuel system
try getting fuel filter replaced asap
have you been filling up on Total stations, I found they use a lot of BAD ass diesel which kills filters
was there any P000E or P2290 DTCs discovered?
good luck with it and French garages

re Total diesel. I use Total Excellium (from Access stations) virtually exclusively in France and never had any problems, do I need to be looking elsewhere?

This voltage does look a bit low, even for hot conditions with a charged battery. Incidentally what is the battery voltage after not being charged for several hours (to avoid surface charge effects)?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Working, what is this working you speak of??
No, it's just I try & buy soooooooper diesel from branded stations at near supermarket prices. Minimum spend, maximum results. The only stations you can do that is Total Access or automated Esso Express (not common and even less common selling Esso Supreme). If Total are no good it limits my choice.
