I've got the Bridgestone D694 265/65R17 112T on, and am very happy with them. I bought the vehicle second hand with them already fitted, and was not aware that they were not standard until I got a puncture.
Stupid Question
Are there different tire pressures applicable for the different tire brands, or are there standard pressures applicable, mostly for on road use?

Have just returned from getting fitted with Cooper ATRs - 235/70R17 111S - and they provide a much smoother ride than the outgoing Wranglers. The seem much quieter too but I haven't been anywhere other than the 10 km of sealed roads between the tyre place and home. Running the same pressure as the old Wranglers - 38 psi.
Will give a more detailed report after a road trip Brisbane to Darwin.

I've just fitted Cooper ATR LT265/70/17 - have given me slightly more clearance, I could not be happier!

Hi Mr Andrew and welcome to the forum (if not welcomed before).
My Coopers are the 235 and thanks to some lovely wet weather we are experiencing in SE Qld at the moment I am finding out how great they are around town. Great tyre so far.
But I wondered about clearances of the 265. Do you get any rubbing on the rear tyres?

Leigh - I'm running 275/65-18; 32". There is some very slight rubbing at full compression in full lock cornering at speed in the front - but then, how often does that happen...

Thanks Simon. When getting the Cooper ATRs I had the option of fitting the 265s but my tyre guy didn't share my enthusiasm. He has had warranty issues with Land Rover (for other fitments not on Discovery 3s) and wasn't prepared to give me the go ahead. Since I've shopped at the same place for tyres for 39 years (some sort of personal record) I must trust their judgement.

Seems like a good reason to not get them in your case. Life is so subjective though - one tyre dealer versus another, one LR dealer vs another, ah well - keeps life interesting...

Ok, here's the short term results on my new 17" tyres:
In the end I went for the Cooper ATR's at OEM size. That avoided any sizing issue and they were $260 each which was about $50 a tyre cheaper then oem's. I like the slightly more aggressive tread pattern of the ATR's.
I took them up to Mt Buller and was driving in about 20cm of snow and a lot of slush/ice when I took the family skiing for a week. I have to say they performed better then I expected. They also seem to be better on general road work then the original tyres - although the originals were 30k old when I changed them over.
I like them so much I am looking for something similar for my wife's BMW X3.
So far, so good.

The older I get, the better I was.

Have just completed 11 000 km of Western Qld, NT, SA, Vic, ACT, and NSW highways and back roads. Even found a bit of snow on the Alpine Way!
The Cooper ATRs performed very well and as I mentioned in the earlier post appear to be quieter than OEM Wranglers. The grip in wet road conditions, especially just as drizzle falls is much better than the outgoing tyres.
My only gripe (if you can call it that) is that the tread pattern allows a certain size stone to be retained and occasionally these let go at 100+ kph with a loud bang under the arches. I dread to think that they might just find the paintwork of other road users..
Overall, I am happy with their performance - I know previous Coopers (on the Pajero) gave good mileage so I don't expect any less than the replaced Goodyears. LeighW

I have been busy so not on the forum. I agree with re stones in the ATR's - they bug me, I allways seem to be flicking stones out with my penknife. Although I have never had any problems, so I doubt it matters.
Do the LT265/70/17's rub? No. I have belted through washouts at highspeed, and done full wheel articulation in 1st low range (slow), and have not been able to get anything to touch. So I am really happy, and when you next need tyres. get the bigger ones an enjoy a bit more clearance.
EDIT - don't understand why, but some 40,000km later, now they DO rub on the rear, as I have said in later posts. My best theory is that rear bushes now allow more movement?

Hi guys.
I plan to buy 265/70/R17 tyres for use on boggy tracks. I wonder whether it's not a problem with them being almost 1 inch bigger in diameter (compared to general disco3 tyres) so I get all the gaps between wheels and wheel archs clogged with mud. Does this ~1 inch difference bring any essential change in behaviour on mud?

I thought 17" standard size was 235/70 R17 ?

They are nearly 1.5" larger than standard. I run a 32" tyre - there is some rubbing in the inner arches at full compression such as whwn cornering at speed - but I'm happy with them.
