Used to live in the States. Will never forget the day our local walmart sold out of all types of ammo.

Just got back from California and was in a local 'JD Sports' type store (can't remember exact name) in Santa Barbara, just like any you find on typical UK shopping centre, not huge or specialist place.
Amongst the reeboks and Adidas gear was a gun counter. Probably 30 handguns in glass cabinet and similar amount of shotguns on rack behind. Everything from 'child sized' up to pump action shotgun.
What got me was the large warning signs. Basically you paid a checking fee ($9 or so) and a day or so later you could go collect your gun and ammo.
They obviously take gun ownership seriously and limiting the amount people buy as you're only allowed to apply and buy one gun every thirty days and basically had to 'cross your heart and hope to die' that you'd look after it (and any follow on purchases) properly
They were very willing to let me 'take a closer look' if I wanted despite assurances of 'just looking' and 'from the UK'......
