If CAP are saying registrations have increased by 10k in th UK then that doesn't appear to be reflected in JLRs own stats Confused Anyway as always... demand will drive the price Smile

If demand dictates the price - that is of new cars & these have to be not only comparable to other makes / brands /types & markets (a hierarchy)...then what of the used sales market prices ?
....the dealer buys in (at the trade in value to you - usually pitifully low) to make his profit knowing that he has a sale (at a price differential - higher value) somewhere - either already "done" in the trade or knowing that some punter will be sure to turn up & splurge...the forecourt sale.

If anyone has or ought to know the market for the cars they usually deal in - a dealer should
Strong second hand prices give confidence to the seller (residuals)..."look at how these keep the price" & the owner knowing his car isnt de-valuing itself away by the second (look for the folk who constantly peer at the waht car "book" prices...just to reassure themselves).

Weak second hand values are the slippery slope spiral dealers who are reluctant to trade in & give a daft trade in value...have you ever tried to raise this by negotiation ? - punctuated by saying dont bother I already have a private sale...this denies the dealer of one (of the list of seven possibles) profit.
The market will never be good, be depressed, unpredictable - according to dealers (if there is a collective noun "a pack"........like hungry carivores)

The trade of traded in cars to the dealer is a massive & very viable source of revenue - unlike selling new cars that have a list ("fixed") cost from the maker & a set sticker otr price to the punters (you & me) - they can manipulate both the buying & selling prices - ideally keeping them as far apart as possible. Censored me its a business guys. If the dealer isnt selling new he has to move his used car stock & he can yo-yo the prices up & down to drag in the punters.

New car buyers are a commodity to the dealer that allows him to play with more of the seven possibles always to his betterment. Some dealers are less worse than others...

The wheeler dealers aspect.

Dealers are never (or very rarely) doing you any favours, despite the fact you are a known, regular, loyal, repeat customer - you are still a customer who pays all the salaries & bonusus (or is it bonusi ?)
You may sometimes just sometimes just get a payback for some situation that was to your detriment...these are rare & usually unrepeatable. I have a singular experience of this with Hurst's in Belfast...who are on the whole with scruples.

Above all Caveat-Emptor...the buyer beware...always. & it applies to lots you can buy - it always pays to shop around.

...But of course everyone knows this

Some figures from Motoring research would seem to suggest 10K could be poss, hard to say, without individual breakdown on models, but perhaps the 10k figure is all 4x4 models.

Quote:
In 2010, JLR sold 232,839 cars; year to date in 2014, it has retailed 240,372 vehicles. That’s a 14% year on year increase over 2013, with June’s total of 39,594 vehicles marking a 17% increase on the previous year.
From link below:
Thats 8K more in a 6 month period Exclamation

http://www.motoringresearch.com/car-news/j...0710945847

As you say the market will dictate, with help from the weather!

The rest as in shares and house prices is all speculation.

Have seen 2 local dealers have brand new un registered vechicles several times at 3-4k over listed Landrover stated prices (spec taken into account). When speaking to Landrover customer services on another issue I raised this point and they informed me that dealers could set their own pricing as theirs was only a recommended retail price.

Good advice Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

You can get all the JLR retail volume breakdowns by model back to 2012 here

Maybe as you say they are talking across the market sector rather than just the D4 Smile

Had a quick look, of course in that time The Ewok appeared and looking at some random months that model alone would far exceed 10k units per year for all models.

Did you have a resolution Question

Have done a little more research my end and would seem that all is not lost.

Big local secondhand dealer, sells a fair few Landys, Quoted 34K against a 21K Freelander, Uses Glasses.

D4 in for Warranty work yesterday today, never bothered as usually crap, but salesman phoned and offered to give value, got to talking and said they could do some great deals on Freelander Metropolis.
Anyway price offered 34.5K.

Waiting full details but they seem very keen to do a quick deal, suspect they have a customer looking for my colour combo etc ready to go.

Surprised by price as they only have 1 other D4 on sale same model but year older at £32.5 k

Certainly would seem worth looking at other options, if only to sell yours elsewhere and complete new sale

Hi all
Firstly my apologises for not updating things sooner, I've been a tab busy farming.

Anyway I finally got things sorted out with help from both the NFU legal team and Land Rover Customer Service.
Of the £3000 originally asked for, I finished up settling with £1000 from me, £1000 from LR, and £1000 from the dealer.
Of course this wasn't my preferred outcome but I had had use of the vehicle for an extra 6 months and the final cost to change of £6000 for a 18mth vehicle Disco HSE with 27k miles wasn't too bad.
We can argue the point all day long on whether I should have paid the extra but in the end I just couldn't go and get an equal deal elsewhere.
So now a happy owner of another Discovery and enjoying every moment although the stop/start seems a little primative.
Cheers

Been moving house, country, etc.

What's the state of play with D4 pricing? Did the big slump come? I'm selling one of my two MY14s next year and wondered whether I'm going to be crying into my beer! Question
