Glow Plugs - How To......

I think mine are on the way out - how does one access / test them ?? Are there any specific parameters to look for / measure.

Anyone got a 'How To.........' Question Whistle

An interesting article re carbon build up - doesn't specifically mention glow plugs but the theory would definately apply accordingly.

Root Cause of the TFSI Intake Valve Carbon Build-up Established.

Many vehicle manufacturers have moved to direct injection designs in order to improve fuel economy and lower exhaust emissions. However, this has resulted in excessive carbon build-up on the rear of the intake valves, particularly with the VW, Audi TSFI, BMW Mini and similar engines.

The exact cause has never be fully understood other than the fact that the fuel never comes into contact with the rear of the intake valve on a direct injection engine and therefore the fuel and/or fuel additives cannot clean them. This is just the reason why the issue cannot be managed rather than the root cause.

Click below for the full article and detailed explanation on the issue and actual cause.
