D4 used or new?

I am looking at D4s (again) as a replacement for my X5. I have got a few figures for approved LR used cars and they are expensive on finance. I would be funding with a PCP with a modest deposit over 4 years and less than 10k per annum miles.

The used APR rates are high and as the cars hold their value by my reckoning there seems to be only a small difference between getting a 2010/11 XS with 40000 miles and getting a brand new GS (will it be a SE?) with a couple of options using the subsidised new car finance rate. Not sure what kind of discount I would get on new though.

Any one had this dilemma?

Yeah I had exactly the same thing. Started out looking at used but on a pcp it works out just as good or cheaper for a new one. So I ordered a GS which is now going to be an SE.
Good discounts are available for BASC members. I got this in writing and my local dealer matched it. Don't know if anyone got any better discount ?
Also saved myself the price hike on the SE so I'm quite happy.

Thanks for your reply. May I ask what BASC stands for? I know that NFU membership secures a 5% discount.

I just got a quote on a 2012 XS (8 speed auto ). £2k deposit and £582 per month over 48 months and a guaranteed value of £13085 - car is up for £34990. This car looks fab with the side steps and side mouldings, not sure what else is an option on this one.

According to the LR website, a new XS with a 10% discount (is this possible?) and standard spec comes in at about £560 a month. That doesn't include metallic paint.

It's the British Association for Shooting and Conservation. Might be worth the £69 to join as you'll get better than 5% !!

Would you know if you have to be a member for a certain period of time before you qualify for the LR discounts ?

Funny old thing, I am in the armed forces, I need to go and have a look at that although my understanding was that you could not use the discount with the cheaper finance rates. I also have a trade in which complicates things a bit.

Discoverynovice,
I have bought 4 Discos with the military discount, always for cash but good finance deals were available from the supplying dealer (Marshalls and my last couple, Westover in Sallisbury). The trade in is done between yourself and the dealer, not Land Rover so another deal canbe done usually or sell it privately if possible as the value will be higher than trade, although the hassle can out weigh this. If you have any questions feel free to pm me and I can tell you my experiences.

I have spoken to few other non enthusiast owners and the general feeling is you would have to be raving bonkers to run one of these things after the 3 year manufacturer warranty expires. Some did mention how stupid they were to drive 30 miles ea way almost weekly for the free repairs for 3 years.

I went to my dealer looking for a used D4, then found out that a new one wouldn't cost a great deal more per month.

However, my last two cars were purchased new and I always ended up being too precious over them and as I would like to try and use my D4 off-road that would definitely never happen with a new one.

Other reasons for a used one was no waiting list and then as a delved into the options on a new one the price difference did start to increase rapidly, so I ended up with a 2010 XS.

Thanks for the comments. I definately agree with the point regarding warranty. It is genuine piece if mind to have 3 years of worry free ownership and the new model has cheaper tax, but comes with a 3 month wait.

The XS has a discount of £6000 or so on the list of £47000, but I assume that is now a different model - SE Tech?? And don't know what extra stuff that has and what the new price is. I would also want side steps, mats etc which all starts to add up.

However, I do like that silver 2012 XS it looks the part!

Boring and inaccurate.

No worse than any other car with same levels of complexity.

More enthusiastic communities online exacerbate noise around any issues that do exist.

For every owner with an issue there's probably 10,000 happily getting on with happy ownership.
