RRS to D4

Hi all

First post on here so be gentle !

Currently I run a 2012 RR Sport but I'm thinking of a change and am considering ordering a D4 .

Anyone else gone in that direction ? If so how did you find it ?

Current D4, in HSE Lux anyway, has similar level of interior trim to the RRS (i.e. leather dash and door tops and Windsor seat leather, etc.) so it bridges any perceived downgrading of 'luxury'.

I've had many D3's, 4's and RRS's and the Disco' does 'more' that the RRS can't in terms of people/capacity and doesn't lose anything to the RRS, bar the luxury touches on older models (and they're not to everyone's taste, those using their car as a 'tool' more than a limo' anyway)

Both are great vehicles yet the Disco' is more suited to opening the boot/doors and chuck whatever in it yet you can hose it down and go 'posh' at the end of the day also.

Different people perceptions also for what are, essentially, same vehicles; RR gets all the 'bling' and 'drug dealer' comments and the Disco' tends to go under the radar as a respected vehicle by all. Certainly used to get more 'road rage' type aggression in the RRS and one of those vehicles (a la BMW) that people just don't want to let you out of side roads I found......

My view anyway Thumbs Up

Thanks for the opinions.

Sorry for the slow reply , I have been sitting on a wifi less beach , but the sun and the rum was pretty good ...

I think I will give a D4 a go , will probably need to sell the RRS privately to make the maths work as I would imagine the dealer will be telling me that no one wants one anymore despite the fact they charge top dollar for them on their used list. I'm sure that will be an adventure in itself !

Now for the spec........

Hi,

I went from D3 to 2008 RRS, and although beautiful looking car regretted the decision from day one. Went back to D4 in 2010. All fully loaded HSE models so apple to apple experience.

Disco is just such a versatile vehicle hard to go any other way.

Now 3months into MY14 D4 HSE with every option except TV, and black pack. Best car I ever had, leather everywhere, glass roof, rse, wading, blind spot, etc. Can take a whole family, tonne of gear, actually amazing unbelievable amount of gear anywhere.

Spent ages trying to decide between new style RRS or Disco or even RR in November of last year before doing my custom order Disco 4 MY14.

And glad I did once I sat in a new RRS, cabin very stylish but really only 4 seats but boot is so small compared to Disco.

Need to get Mrs to swap Volvo for Disco and then i get full fat RR. Smile

I nearly went RRS when I got my D4 4 years ago - lack of space turned me off it and new (then) 3L engine in D4 sealed the deal in my head
I think the new RRS is a stunner of a looker, but still not versatile enough to persuade me should I ever change again (the two seats in the back are a joke compared to the Disco's as one example)

While the Disco is practical - it looks awful - like a refrigerator on wheels. Shocked

Went from an 05 disco 3/lr3 to an 06 rrs for my wife. Regretted that from day one. The '12 d4/lr4 we have now is a vast improvement on both. Having said that, the 2014 or 15 rrs has my eye now as a replacement for my ffrr.

I took my Mrs to see the new RRS sport when the disco was in for a service. She said it looked girly!. Said that if she saw one in the street she would expect a girl to come out. The disco is a more manly car and not so chelsea. We then opened the boot to see the third row seating. The boot was barely open when she said no way. We are expecting baby number two and the new RRS is far too small.

I guess we'll be waiting for the new disco 5 then.

Going back to the OPs first post, I think you may find the handling lacking in the disco but otherwise it's brilliant. First car I've kept for more than 18 months in 14 years of car changing!

I don't get why anyone would buy a new Disco just now when there is a new one just round the corner.

Albeit I have never had a Disco, or RRS (only a lowly P38 RR), but I have been looking at these motors new (but going to grab a D3 in the meantime) recently. I have decided to hold off until the D5 is released, and see where we are then.

OP, if you're in no hurry to change, I'd wait on the D5.

Going by the new range rover prices, the new disco 5 will be a lot more money. For me it's the chance to bag a full fat disco before I can't afford it any more Very Happy

For me, the reason was simple. The new D5 may not suit my needs as well as the D4. If that was the case, then at least I'd have a reasonable young D4 that I could look after and keep for ages.

Seeing how well old D3's still sell, I'm not really worried about selling or doing a p/x on the D4 if I do like the new D5 (whenever it does eventually arrive).
