You are right about rifles
I did not check out the possibilities of off-roading around here, but knowing how it works here, I expect to be nearly impossible.
My dealer organizes a day of off-roading every year, they rent a Swiss army tank training field, soft to medium off-roading available.
There are some off-road clubs around, they might know more, but I never got in touch with them as they are mostly in the German and French part of Switzerland.

As you can clearly see from the map - we got lost and were doing circle
If you want real off road trip with lots of unpaved roads going higher and higher - go to Bulgaria - before it's not too late (I mean before EU put too much pressure on them to obey the rules)
