The tongue you see in the gallery was purchased from a towbar retailer and is readily available. I selected this one to provide the correct ride height for the TVan and enough length for the vehicle part of the AT35 hitch supplied with the TVan. It is also rated at 3500kg/350kg. Cost was <$200....
Regards
Haggis
In preparation for the Mitchell Bros hitch I purchased another tongue for my off-road van and the one puchased looks similar to the one that Haggis shows in the pics.
The one I was sold by a towbar dealer is a Hayman Reese 3500kg/350kg tongue and quoted to be suitable for the Land Crusiers. The standard D3 tongue when turned upside down has a web that interferes with my Tregg coupling. On the new tongue there is no web due to the angle that the tongue is welded to the square tube (as seen also in Haggis's pics).

Towing Hitch
Looks good Haggis. What is the name / supplier of the tongue your using in the photos and do you think a Tregg hitch receiver will fit OK to it?
Cheers,

Removing the replacing the hitch difficult and not necessary as Haggis said the D2 tongue fits into the receiver for normal trailer height. The hitch was designedto be flexible what ever you wish to tow. leave it on and it will not affect the departure angle at all.
I would like it to be removeable

It can be removed but not easily due the LR design of putting a recovery eye where a tongue receiver should be.
If you want easily removable there is always the LR one. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

which I use regularly and suits me fine which is why I would like the other (which will only see occasional use) have the ability to be removed and maintain the recovery eye.

There is a recovery eye on the hitch it was degigned as we knew it would be a pain to remove it:

This is on the prototype the final one has a larger eye which will take a bow shackle.
Otherwise you would need one of these:
The eye was taken off Haggis's one as it interfered with the closing of the wheel carriers.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Hi All,
Tow hitch is setup and being tested for rating of 3499kg. We will have retail prices very soon, looking in the vacinity of $380-440 AUD depending on testing and engineering certification costs, which looks like being about 10 grand, OUCH.
I believe it has worked out at about $450 + GST ($490)

Hi Guys,
Any news at all from Mitchell Bros? All seems to have gone pretty quiet.

I would give Aaron a ring and ask where things are up to and the price.
Mitchell Bros have not done any marketing yet to anyone other than this forum or by word of mouth from Disco3 members.
The hitch is a definite goer and works and well. Aaron was not happy with some of the first run and will make sure the next run is right.
I'm seeing him tomorrow and will see if he can give an update.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
