Water on the pollen filter

Just changed my pollen filter an noticed damp on side nearest the central console - any ideas where I should start to look for the leak?

Windscreen seal, scuttle panel and A-post trim in that order.

My money's on the scuttle panel as you've had a wet pollen filter. One corner of the cabin air intake juts out from under the windscreen, so if you get a leak in the scuttle panel sealer just below where the vin is displayed it can enter the air intake and wet the pollen filter. Mine poured in but luckily most was caught by the rubber floor mat.

The arrows show where the water can get in. The pollen filter can be seen in the first picture.

I took the opportunity to replace my old scuttle panel as the plastic had gone grey. I also made a small plastic deflector from a 1 litre oil container(credit to someone on this forum but can't remember who) and bolted it to the intake so no water can enter even if the sealer leaks again, I forgot to take a picture of it. A pillar trims need to be removed, you need to buy new clips otherwise you may have another leak!
I suppose you could try lifting the rubber seal on the scuttle below the vin area and pump some sealer along that area, it may do the trick.

Cheers for that advice and pics - I had a new windscreen recently so I'm betting the scuttle is the culprit. Ta

Thanks for this , I am currently having the exact same issue. I noticed water coming in on my rubber mat in the passenger footwell. When I investigated the leak I tracked it back to the pollen filter area , the pollen filter is wet and so is the plastic housing inside around the filter.

I will most likely order a new scuttle pan since mine is turning a grey colour, but I was actually wondering about the deflector idea. Does anyone know how to make the deflector?

I Just hacked at a 1 litre plastic oil container with a Stanley knife, it quite easy to see what's needed when the scuttle panel is off. I cut it just big enough to deflect any water, still leaves plenty of area for air to get in.
Also, get some new A-pillar trim clips because they are bound to break and that could cause yet another leak. I managed to remove the old scuttle without removing the A-pillar trims but found a couldn't get the new one back on without removing them. You will also need a tube of black sealer as well for the new scuttle.

Yet again thank you very much. Hopefully i will figure out how to make the deflector, if not I will just make sure I seal up both the new pan and get new clips for the A-post trims.

I have found that the scuttle panel has a buckle in it and isnt forming a seal against the windscreen, so im going to order a replacement for that.

I took it off and sealed under the windscreen with a clear mastic anyway just for sanity more than anything.

Fingers crossed my issue was just caused by the warped scuttle panel!

Sounds like you've found the probable cause. Thumbs Up

Stu, thanks for leading me to this thread.

I was intending to have a local guy install a new lower finisher (scuttle panel?) but since y'all have made it look easy I'll have a crack at it.

What do I need to look out for when doing the job? I know about the A pillars, and already have clips available. The other main issue would seem to be that the windscreen wipers go through the panel, which looks like a bit of a mare.

What is 'black sealer'?

[edit]
a bit of searching and this fourm comes up trumps again http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic86429-15.html

You may need something like this to remove the wiper arms.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Windscreen-Windo...35e77bd5b0

I ran a bead of black silicon sealer or maybe roof & gutter sealant (can't remember which now) under the new scuttle before fitting.

Water ingress to n/s footwell Swimming pool

I had the same problem passenger side front carpet soaked through. I did the "A" pillar Mod with new clips but sill a leak. if you drop the glove box down and remove the pollen filter from the heater(easy job) Shine a light up into the air intake and get someone to pour water slowly onto the windscreen below the N/s wiper blade you will see the water enter the intake and pour out of the heater. I then removed the wiper blades and unclipped the scuttle panel there was one clip missing just over the air intake. Clean the rubber on the panel that rests on the windscreen to ensure a water tight fit. I then fabricated a plastic deflector form an old gallon oil container and fastened it to the pre drilled holes in the are intake with some plastic number plate screws you know the yellow or white ones with a washer on each side Job DONE Very Happy Very Happy

I just formed a water deflector with duct tape. You could also run a thin bead of clear silicone sealant along where the scuttle plate meats the windscreen.
