Last week I started experiencing random error messages on startup. The error message flashed across the screen so quickly I had to video record the message with my phone and pause it to see what the error message was all about. These only happened on cold start and were completely random: HDC Fault, Transmission Fault, System Fault, etc but no "i" or error message remained and no fault code was registered that I could scan for.
My battery is only 2 months old so I wanted to rule that out and due to my recent CJB/BCU fun I was starting to think big gremlins.... but earlier this week, during a transmission filter change, I disconnected the battery and on doing so came across a searing hot positive battery terminal clamp!!!
The clamp itself looked fine(although hot) and the battery itself wasn't hot but on close inspection I found a ridge running horizontally on the battery terminal itself. This ridge was preventing proper fitment of the clamp to the terminal - keeping an almost invisible gap between the terminal and clamp.
20 seconds with a metal file and all is working 100% again.
I hope this helps someone in the future
