Start up

Hello, since the weather has dropped in temp I've noticed my disco smokes and has a rough idle for about 20secs. This only happens in the mornings, not during the day on start up. I've also noticed that my exhaust tip is slightly black. Whilst driving there is no smoke at all and drives very smoothly.

Is this something that I should be concerned about?

Thanks

No smoke from under left wheel.

Glow plugs? I did suspect that as twice after glow lights have gone out Ive turned the key and it's struggled to start, then puff! Smoke, rough idle, then back to smooth smokeless engine.

Is this a big job on Disco 3 V6.

Ok, I've been quoted between £1000 - £2000 to change how ever many glowplugs need changing.

Very expensive, I was told they have some super tool to take them out, then he tells me that 80% of the plugs snap! Doesn't make sense to me! Confused

My warrenty has confirmed that they will pay for the knackered ones to be replaced however my warrenty covers up to £1000 on each claim.

Anyone near Bedfordshire that can recommend a good garage that does it cheaper. I dont want to pay any outstanding money over the £1000, thats if the warrenty company agree to their quote!

not un-normal for glow plugs to snap and need drilling out, then the tip falls in the engine and may require the heads to be removed to recover that bit.

Some people can recover the tips through the injector port, buts its labour intensive, some garages refuse to change glow plugs as its a big chance to take.

Four out of 6 knackered. Garage changed all 6 whilst there, problem solved, service is next on the list.

No garage was happy with procedure, car was with them most of the day.

I'm booking it in for a full service next week, is it worth getting the diff oils changed?
