245/70/17 vs 235/70/17

Hello

Would you have any suggestions on road tyres on 245/70/17?
The 235/70/17 could not be easily found in my country....and i should look after alternatives....

cheers

245/70/17 will be slightly larger but not large enough to cause problems. They will fill the arches very nicely. It will look even better if you have an IID Tool or similar and can raise the suspension around 1 inch to compensate for the larger diameter Thumbs Up

I am on 265/70/17 which are even larger than 245/70/17 (the max you can go without major rubbing or more radical mods).

This is a pic of the 265/70/17 in normal height before the IID Tool lift (the front is correct.. the rear is slightly jacked up because the left side rear wheel is on a small ramp) After the IID Tool lift, the rear looks like it does in this picture Thumbs Up

The issue is mostly about tyre diameter.

Use this http://tire-size-conversion.com/tyre-size-calculator/
Enter the tyre size. Any diameter 31.5 inches or lower will be fine without mods.

Just for comparison, stock 235/70/17 is 30 inches
265/70/17 is 31.6 inches (very slight rubbing when new under full articulation... nothing to worry about). This is the max I would recommend without mods.
245/70/17 is 30.5 inches, so will fit very comfortably Thumbs Up

I have run 245/70/17 BFG ATs for the past 13 months with no problems thus far; they were within a couple of mm diameter of the tyres that were on the 18" rims which came with the car (I specifically wanted to put the ATs on)

this is one of the tyres after they have covered 41,600 miles (to date) Thumbs Up

 Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE
Previously:
TD5 Defender 110 CSW (230k miles)
300TDi Disco 1 (289k)

110 V8 CSW (220k)
S3 109 hi cap pickup (ex RN)
S2A 88 Safari SW with lpg conversion (bloody lethal)

I might be wrong, but I think tyreleaders ship to all EU countries:

Good selection of 235/70/17 as well:

Hope that helps Thumbs Up

Just note that 245/65/17 is smaller than the stock tyre size. (stock = 30 inches, 245/65/17 = 29.5 inches)

If you only have a choice of those 2 sizes, I would strongly recommend 245/70/17. I personally think the stock tyres are very slightly too small for the arches. Wouldn't want to go smaller for sure!
