Too many possibles on here when I search for fob charging, here's my problem
fob seems to charge on a longish journey and operate the locking
But
Leave the car for 20 minutes or more and fob inoperable
Anyone think the fob battery at fault?
Or charging system?
Both fobs seems to be behaving the same, from the same time, weirdly
The fact that fob takes a small charge suggests to me not a problem with wiring in cill or responder(?) 1933 austin riley 1963 lambretta Li150

You have posted this in D4 technical so take it the key fob is on a D4 ? If that is the case the battery is not rechargeable and needs replacing.

It's a joint site for disco3.co.uk and disco4.com ...but I have moved your thread to the correct section for you 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I had the same problem with my key fobs on my 2006 D3. After a long drive/charging I was able to lock the doors with the fob, but not unlock after. One shot and it was spent.
I ended up rebuilding both of my fobs myself and saved a lot of money in the process. Do some searches here on this forum for key fob rebuild or battery replacement.
What you need to do is replace the battery in each and you should be good to go. No programming or trips to the stealers required.
Good luck. 1998 Discovery LSE - Gold, 249,000+ miles, completely stock

When I purchased my used 2006 D3 last year both Fobs were toast. I didn't even realize this until AFTER I paid and drove off with the vehicle.
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic39609.h...key+%2Bfob Here is a link to get you started on repairing your own. There are other posts in the forum that explain it more but with these photo's you'll get the idea.
So, you pry the body of the fob apart carefully, replace the special battery (you need a soldering iron to do this job), then re-seal the body of the fob. Or, you can purchase a brand new fob body from ebay like I did and put the circuit board into it and re-seal. Plenty of options. 1998 Discovery LSE - Gold, 249,000+ miles, completely stock

Changed the battery in one of my fobs last night by following this guide.
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic63124.h...+%2Bcasing
I replaced my case with an ebay one as I butchered the old one. New battery came from cellpacksolutions.
Note about desoldering the battery; the above guide is wrong about the location of the battery legs and what's written on the PCB next to them. The clock positions are more like 11 and 5. I worked this out by looking at the underside of the new battery before getting happy with the soldering iron.
Also I found a solder sucker would not remove all solder and small remnants of solder formed a film barrier across the holes on the PCB. Removing the battery cleanly so the legs of the new battery passed through the holes on the PCB took more time than anything else. Desoldering wick would have worked better in hindsight.
