Afternoon all, it's been a while since I posted here!
Just failed the MOT because the headlamp washers aren't functioning (they never have done because the Xenons were retrofitted years ago, and the washer nozzles aren't plumbed in!) This must be due to the more strict test criteria introduced last year? I've had the exact same setup for about 5 years now, with no MOT problems previously - so beware if you've got the same setup as me. It seems that I'd be ok if the bumper didn't have the headlamp nozzles fitted, it's only when it looks like there is a washer system installed, then it must work when HIDs are fitted.
So it looks like I need to either refit the halogen headlamps for the MoT retest, or remove the nozzles from the bumper and blank them off. Probably easier to swap the lamp units.
Anyone else had this problem?Previously:

And what if the washer reservoir is empty? How do they test it then? Are they allowed too put water in the reservoir to test it?
Sounds a bit suspicious to me, RBM. I have the same car as you with retro-fitted non-adaptive xenons. My car came with headlamp washers already fitted and plumbed-in, though.

Xenons must have washers. An empty bottle would be a failure reason (same as empty windscreen washer bottle).
Removing the washer jets will not remove the need for washers to be fitted and functional with Xenons.
I would return to the halogens for the 2 minutes it'll take you.06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

It would fail if the bottle was empty, just as the windscreen washer bottle being empty would.

I also thought that Xenons should have washers fitted and working, but this is the VOSA wording now...
Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system.
Where such systems are fitted, they must work; however, it is accepted that it may not be possible to readily determine the functioning of self levelling systems. In such cases, the benefit of the doubt must be given.
Headlamp washers may work in conjunction with the windscreen washers (when the dipped beam headlamps are switched on) or by a separate switch.
I agree reverting back to the halogens is easiest, but it seems a non existent headlamp washer isn't a fail (for HID fitted vehicles) based on the above wording. The rules for NI are slightly different apparently, and do require working washers for the MOT. Confusing!Previously:

That could be where you're going wrong, RBM.
But it still doesn't explain why your D3 passed the MoT test for the last 5 years but only failed this year.
This requirement has not changed, as far as I am aware?2021 BMW iX3 Premier Edition in Carbon Black ⚡️🔌

Technically, I don't have a headlamp washer system fitted, just the nozzles
I don't think I'll win that argument though!
Old halogen units going back in for the retest. I'm just glad the EPB didn't scream on the ramp, as an EPB fault light is also a fail now!
The old girl's not doing too bad though - 9 years old, 173000 miles and this is the first failure Previously:
