Hi
Go easy on me as this is my first post and I know this has been covered, but I am getting slightly confused!
I have had the Disco for 2 months, when all of a sudden the 2nd button on the key fob stopped opening the tailgate (groan groan) however on one of the fobs the Land Rover button will release it if we pull the tailgate at the same time as depressing the button (odd I realise but maybe someone has pre-programmed it to do this, the other doesn't do it)
I have looked at the forums and see that some have suggested a new cable, others a new rear handle etc. I don't want to waste money on the wrong part. I am pretty handy so don't mind having a go, unless there is someone near me (Aylesbury or Thame) who can help or point me in the right direction of someone who can.
Many thanks
Matt

Hi Matt,
Its happened to a lot of us.
IF its the actuator cable as it was with me, it's a relatively easy and inexpensive job.
There's a 'how to' on here which is a very good step by step guide.
Rest assured -you'll get all the help you need on here
Davey.

Matt, You do no need a new actuator / cable. If the end of the cable had failed, NOTHING other than climbing into the boot, stripping out the rear lining and manually releasing the tailgate would open it.
Remember this, if you try the rear handle and can hear the rear actuator operate but nothing happens, the cable has snapped and will need repairing or swapping out. If however you try the rear handle and nothing happens, no clicking or whirring, then the problem is very likely to be electrical and would need further investigation.
Yes, your keyfob ( LR Button ) has been programmed to release the tailgate.
Your problem lies with your keyfob or tailgate electrics IMHO. Mods:

Don't be put off though.... I'd replace that cable as a preventative measure anyway... If yours is fitted with the old type it will have definately failed in time...and when it fails particularly with a boot full of dogs and a dog guard fitted or fully laden on the grocery run the only way of opening it is climbing through the rear of the car trying to force the boot trim off and manually releasing the lock.. It is a total job!
Mine went spookily whilst visiting my local Land Rover dealer...how convenient and the mechanic took minutes because he knew exactly where to lever the rear boot panel without damage...
Just replace it....
For those that haven't what actually fails on this cable is the L shaped nipple on the end of the cable. It is made of aluminium and fails....it will be cracking for months and on one final time the L fails .....the cable will still operate and the motor will still make the noise but because the end of the cable has failed there is no resistance to pull the latch... The new type ones have been redesigned....
