Bodsy, budget v spec is always an issue. I took the plunge a couple of years ago looking for the same spec as you and ended up with a Bailey Indiana S6, this would be out of your budget but you may get close with a series 5 Indiana http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/CaravanClubAp...amp;page=1

only had one so far - an eldis 626. good for size and towing as twin axle. Not bad for value either, but I have had a problem with damp which had to go back for repair. That said, I am still going to hold on to it for another couple of years before changing it. the layout, fixed bed, toilet at the side with shower, good size kitchen with fixed seat dinette and then twin long seats at front really works for us. two adults and three young kids. the bed is great, if one of the kids falls asleep early, we just put them on the main bed until we are ready and then move them.
One point that I would say, is that eldis use winterhoff hitches and most other makes use Alko. My winterhoff has given me lots of problems when getting to the site and trying to unhitch. Friends that have alko hitches have had no such problems despite owning the same tow vehicle, i.e. a disco. It maybe me still being new to caravanning, but I will be going for a van with Alko next time. the other benefit to an Alko hitch is that the van will have an Alko chassi and therefore you can also fit alko locks to the wheels which are much neater than the large wheel locks I have to carry for both sides. this is a bolt which fits through the wheel and locks into the chassis. slightly fiddly as you have to raise the van in order to spin the wheel to the correct point, but my friends say this is not as much hassle as it sounds.
would also recommend doing one of the caravan club course on towing if you have not done it before. I did a weekend and it gave me loads more confidence. finally - disco is definately a great tow vehicle, loads of grunt and good control. be careful though, almost all of the crashed caravans I have seen in the last few years have been discoveries pulling twin axle vans. the last one was on the m6 last summer - in the fast lane - a disco 4 on its side, caravan in front of the disco and the family all stood at the side of the motorway - between junction 15 and 16. suspect there maybe some over confidence that they have a good tow car and twin axle for stability and go too fast resulting in catastrophe. 65 with cruise control on works well.D3 Java Black 57 Plate SE, Night Breakers, Grabber ATs, Sidelight LEDs and best of all - Narpy torch. loads more to buy.
