disco 3 hopping out of gear.

Hi guys.
My 05 Disco 3 2.7 tdv6 auto has begun to hop out of gear.
This happens when braking to a stop or cornering at junctions.
I'll come to a stop and the gear indicator "D" will go out. Then I would shift to neutral and back to drive and it will drive again.
This has got worse over a period of 2 weeks to the point where it will barely take drive at all now.
Reverse appears to be ok and I have been using "sport" mode which has been fine until today. Now it does it in "sport" mode aswell with the added bonus of a transmission fault warning appearing on the dash.
Is this just a case of needing a "megaflush" or similar as the car has done 85k exactly as of this morning,or is it likely to be something more serious?
Also will it be ok to carry on driving for a few days as its my only car or will I be doing more damage to the torque converter and can anyone recommend anyone local to Harlow who could do a "megaflush"?I have been using AJD Landrovers in Hoddesdon and I think he may be closed for the Christmas period and not sure he does megaflush.I was thinking of trying Wyn Thomas in Epping or MRH Landrovers in Hertford.
Any help or advice will be very greatfuly received as I have a trip to Leicester planned for New Years day to take my wife, stepdaughters and new baby daughter to visit her Nanny!
Happy New Year to every one. Thumbs Up

Thanks Mikey, Bow down .that sounds like my symptoms to the letter and a much cheaper fix than I was expecting.Im presuming the car is safe to drive then if a little frustrating??and can the job be done outside my house or will it need to go up on a ramp?

Better to have it done as soon as, but should not do any damage, as long as it isn't banging itself into gears.

I have done plenty of them at the side of the road. You will need to lift it a little higher, either with a jack or drive on ramps Thumbs Up

just been out and bought some lithium spray grease, seeing as its now pitch dark and freezing out,I'll go out with some wd40 and spray grease in the morning and give it a bloody good clean and lube!
Having driven to Halfords and back armed with the advice its definately just the linkage and nothing more sinister.
Extremely glad I joined the forum and asked the question now, just saved me a fortune and caused all my muscles and bank balance to relax!!!! Rolling with laughter !!!
Many thanks guys, will post results tomorrow. Thumbs Up

Definitely sounds like the linkage the plastic bush seizes with the heat of the box. Bits are about 20 quid give or take, and you can do it on the drive with just a little extra height like a couple of ramps or axle stands Thumbs Up
Just 'cos your paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you!

So I went out this morning with the WD40 & lithium grease,up on some borrowed ramps,3 10mm bolts, squirt of each and a run through the box a couple of times and hey presto!!Jobs a goodun'.Had a run over to Welwyn Garden City today and no problem. We do like a cheap and easy fix on a big and expensive car!! Thumbs Up
So again thanks to everyone for the advice and saving me a fortune trying to find the problem with garages. Bow down
I do love my Disco, but having such an expensive and complicated car does give me some sleepless nights as I could only afford it due to my father leaving me some money.
Being a member of this forum could be a real life saver and I would recommend it to anyone thinking of taking the plunge on a fabulous Disco 3! Very Happy

Prob worth greasing it on an annual basis. Did mine first time three years ago(ish) and refreshed it last summer & all well. It's on my to do list. Thumbs Up

Easy to do in about 15 mins. No need to jack it up. Just undo the 4 or 6 bolts securing the cover plate and it's right in front of you. Not difficult at all Very Happy
