hot to keep auto in high revving gear |
|
hi there can someone please help..i have been told as we sometimes suffer from bad floods to keep my manual car in high revs so that the water doesnt cut the engine out on the off chance that it does come up to the grill or higher,,my question is my discovery 3 is an automatic,,,how would i manage to keep the revs say in first or second gear high without it changing to the next gear and revs dropping .,hope this makes sense

When in drive. Push the level to the left, this will start "Sport" mode. ( you will get sport come up on the dash below the mileage.
This can be flicked forward to change up and backwords to change down manually.
Tbh, unless you are driving past Noah, i would leave it in off road mode and in drive, keep to a steady speed and let a bow wave build up just ahead of the car. Try not to stop while driving through water. In loving memory of FA54WSK.
Rest well old friend, your work is done.

Yes in manual in an auto, the car will not over or under rev.
Last time I was at LRE in Eastnor, bow waves were discussed and basically as long as the water is lower than the official wading depth there is no need to drive quick enough to create on (In a diesel at least) Mark.

it sticks in what ever you select. Only times it changes are if you are doing 50mph you can select 6th gear if you go any slower it will shift down to 5th as you slow it will go down the gears until 3rd is reached. Give it a try, experiment with the functions available.

Even in manual mode it will change up if your revs go high enough ...the only time it will hold in gear up to the rev limiter is if you are in low range.
Don't remember having to worry about revs when wading though ...just steady through with a slight bow wave 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

When you say under rev it will just slip the torque converter To set off in 2nd but for what you want to do is hold first gear at a certain speed. Revs at about 3000 on the counter may get you to around 10 15 mph.

I thought it did change up if revved at red line. I tried this in 2004 when I first drove disco 3 and was learning what did what. It was so long ago I couldn't remember so didn't wanna mention it incase I'm wrong.

High range it will change up when it feels it needs to though at a higher rpm than when in auto ...low range it will hold to the redline with no change up 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
