Comprehensive parts and service list on a potential purchase

Hi all,

I am looking to pick the extensive collective knowledge of this site. I am hoping to join the merry band of D3 owners, and was wondering if a vehicle with a comprehensive and long list of services and parts is a good thing or a bad thing? The vehicle has over £7k of bills in its folder since new and has also had the major service and a new suspension compressor. It has new pirelli scorpions all round. It sounds like the vehicle has been very well looked after. Should i be suspicious or take the dealer at his word?

Being a newbie i am very excited about owning a D3 but i don't really know where to start.

Your help is much appreciated. Very Happy Very Happy

Hopefully i have got this in the right section.

Thanks

Si

Cheers Chris,

i suppose i was more aiming at; do people subscribe to the fact that some vehicles are just lemons and depute all the money thrown at it and the maintenance it will still always have issues?

It depends a bit I guess on whether it is 7k spent chasing a single fault, or split across a number of completely unrelated bills over its life. I would be inclined to agree that it shows it has been looked after and somebody has cared enough to keep the info.

I guess when people have spent a small fortune getting a car "sorted" they start to worry "what next?" and sell it! My experience is that the the best time to buy a car is just after someone else has had all the faults fixed. I don't really think "lemons" or "friday afternoon" cars exist anymore. Quality control is so much better than it used to be. I have a 2004 Disco 2 (for sale) that has done 155,000 miles and it looks great, drives great and is testament to how much abuse a landrover will take. It has had thousands spent on it over the years and has just been "looked after" by knowledgeable owners. All you can do is give it a good inspection and go with your gut feeling. Buying a car is always a big risk. Such is life.

Si,

It sounds in good order but if you are in doubt find a local Forum knowledgeable type who you could ask to take a look at it. It might cost a few quid but they will know straight away if there are issues!! If you are truly worried it might be worth it.

Good Luck

Thanks for your help guys,

I have put a small deposit down to take the vehicle off sale as I can't get to test drive it until Friday.

To that note is there anyone available to come and cast a more experienced eye over the vehicle with me. It is based in Amersham Buckinghamshire and I plan test drive it Friday afternoon around 1:30-2pm (I haven't confirmed times yet) Happy to through a couple of quid your way/crate of beer for your troubles. Or however it works.

Its getting exciting/scary/real. Shocked Smile
Thanks

Simon
