1/3 slope on wet clay towing 2.5T of hay on a twin axle trailer..... fail.
Mind you, I suspect my BFG KM2s would have failed too, only the hole in the field would have been deeper.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

That's a reasonably tough ask for most tyres though ND. My only actual experience of driving off road in a Disco with winter tyres fitted was in a friends D3 shod with Wintracs. They clogged with mud almost instantly and we slipped and slithered along on the flat, lucky not to have got stuck.
I'd like a set of proper cold weather tyres, but I do need a reasonable level of off road performance to get through muddy gateways, tracks and fields etc. Duratracs are too aggressive for the amount of on road miles that I do.
I've managed perfectly well with Pirelli ATR's for the last few winters, but I have a tyre addiction that I can't fully cure

Peter, any experience of how the Ultragrips cope off-road?
On Motorways .... none in Norfolk !
On A roads they are quieter than the Goodyear Wranglers and inspire confidence cruse nicely at 70/80 (circumstances allowing)
On damp cold B roads they are excellent I can feel a "stickyness" that really grips
Used on gravel and farm tracks they are good.
On grass Fields no problems
Iam stil waiting to experience some "Real Mud " but the tracks are still pretty dry here, tempted to cut a corner across a ploughed field but have no one to tow me off in case of a mishap !
I must add this is the first time I have used Winter tyres and She is my first 4 wheel drive car so my experience is limitedPeter

Thanks for the reply Peter
With the correct use of the TR system etc., the D3/4 is superb in all conditions pretty much regardless of what tyre is fitted. Which is why this section of the forum can get so emotional
But please let us know how you get on if/when you encounter any mud with the Ultragrips.

Sorry ND, didn't mean to appear flippant. Just that towing a laden 2.5T twin axle trailer up a wet clay slope, is going to be a tough call for a tyre and as you said, your BFG's would probably have failed as well.
Keen to hear how you get on with muddy gateways etc.
Will let you know I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I paid £198 for two a month ago Luckily my other two new ones cost me £303, so I'm still doing OK for the average price over all four.
Hindsight eh!! [/quote]
How do you work that out?
One month you pay £198 for two and your upset
A month later you pay £303 for two and then your happy

Yes, bought two at £198 each, after having bought one at £130 and another at £173.
It looked to me as if the supply of 19" ATR's in Europe was drying up as £198 was the best price I could find a month ago.

Still tempted to give those Hankooks a go.
Looking good for milage as they have 50,0000 mile warranty in States.
Being a new tyre hopefully around for a bit, if stick with the tried and trusted ATR, will it be obtainable much longer and cause problems if having to replace 1 if damage occurs, starts getting expensive if you buy 5 or 6 just in case.D4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

£166.43 for an ATR is a LOT less than I recently paid when buying four. Great value if they can deliver.
