Just been quoted by local dealer £445.44 for this service in Chesterfield. Does this look about right and anyone know of indy around Derbyshire area I could get another quote from?

Depends what service it is. For first service (12 months) it sounds a little high. If it's the second service (24 months) it's there or thereabouts. I paid £516 for my second service a month ago and that seemed on a par with several other forum members.

I've used DLS in Wirksworth a few times, always did a good job no idea on the cost though. Displaced Yorkshireman.

Bill,
It had an interim 8000 mile service when it was 12 months old in April and just about to hit 16000 so not sure what they would class this as?

I brought quite a few parts from them iover the last few years when I used to service my D3 but it used to be a bit of a nightmare getting them to ring me back with quotes and letting me know when stuff was in stock etc. In saying that I have never used them for service so that side might be more switched on and will ask for a quote.
I cannot remember the last time I had to use a garage for service, always done them myself but just trying to make an attempt at keeping the warranty valid until 3 years is up.

Just spoke with DLS service and they reckon because its over 12 months old its more than the std 12 month service which was £235.
Quoted £335, which sounds reasonable, so going with them and see how it goes.

The main dealers will usually give 10% off if you ring back and say it cheaper elsewhere
And with a main dealer if its in warranty what they quote is what you pay ... none of this ringing back and saying bla bla bla another ££ Peter

Know what you mean about DLS parts dept, bought a 12v compressor from the last year the dozy kid charged me 55p instead of £55, didn't bother going back to tell them. Displaced Yorkshireman.

The local dealer did offer me 9% discount because I have an Allegiance card but still thought it was a bit much.
Must admit my experiance regarding main dealer has been just the opposite,
When my D3 came up to service requiring transfer box oil change I did not fancy doing it so took it to the dealer who has just quoted me for my D4. Half way into the morning get a call to say few other thing wrong like track rod ends were worn and needed replacing, anti-roll bar bushes were shot and front/rear brake pads were 80% worn. Explained to the chap that I was surprised because I had changed the brake pads and discs about 7000 miles earlier and the track rod ends had been changed for the MOT about the same time and were LR parts.
Asked him to leave it and he sounded fed up but I thought they must be right so ordered new track rod ends and brake pads from different dealer in Derby. Weekend after I got the D3 back took it to work all prepared for a day of graft and off with the wheels to find the pads on front and rear had hardly any wear on them. No play in track rod ends although there was in the steering which turned out to be the steering shaft sliding joint uj bearing. Changed that and the antiroll bar bushes to be on the safe side. Thinking about now that I am writing this I wonder why I just phoned them for a quote hmm
Shame really because this particular dealers parts dept is excellent and have ordered parts for me from the USA in the past and added bonus I get discount
After that did all the other services myself including the dreaded cam belt, got all the tools now but I don't think I will do that one again!!

Thanks for the feedback on costs which are a lot more competitive to the one I have been quoted by local dealer, guess living in the wrong area.
Although the UK law since 2002 states that manufactures warranty must be still be maintained even if an indy is used I wonder if this is the case in reality?
Could someone explain how the service intervals and hence charge structure works? From D4 service sheet (on forum) it states an A service at 16,000 miles/12months for 3.0 litre and B for 32,000/24months which is classed as main service. So as mine is just under 16,000 at 19 months where does that fall and what service should I be asking for?
