Adaptive XENON...bulb replacement |
|
Question: is there any maintenance to do when these are swapped out ?
is it possible that the lenses need cleaning ?
- can you get to them to do this ?...without stripping the unit
- does the high beam low beam shuuter need any thing doing to it ?
- will the beams need to be adusted for alignment when this is done ?...is it the barn door method ? or is it a dealer or indie task ? BREXIT - done properly.

You don't need to do anything apart from being very careful when replacing the Xenon bulb.
I changed all my bulbs recently and one Xenon pointed into the air and blinded cars when I refitted them.
The reason was I had put pressure on mechanism when trying to get bulb out.
Solution was to take apart again and the fish-eye just clicked back into place and all is good
If you change the main beam like I did you need really small hands as it's very tight.

The lenses are awkward to clean, unless you were planning to strip the lights completely?
You should not need to do anything with the high/low beam shutter mechanism unless it is sticking (as they do occasionally). You can't easily get to the shutter mechanism without first removing the reflector which is a little fiddly to put back. If it's sticking, then the solenoid would probably benefit from a clean with some fine wire wool and surgical spirit. That does involve stripping them down quite a bit.
With regards alignment, you should not need to change anything as you've only replaced a bulb.
It's quite difficult to fit the bulbs wrongly as they have a plastic locating tab on them.

If its just the bulb that needs changing leave it at that, no pint in tempting fate with sticky shutters etc!

Thanks for the replies & advice.
Maybe I'm getting paranoid & worry too much about something that could & should be simple BREXIT - done properly.

Job Done...a pleasure to do with the easy way the D3 lights remove
WATT (excuse the pun) A DIFFERENCE
I see the point that others have made about the light being "grey"
what I see is the immediate things say two to three car lengths away brightly illuminated that weren't before.
Also put the Osram night breakers in high beams
These are just AWESOME....
....going out in the dark like a small boy with a new torch just to see !
HID4U - excellent service & prices...+ knowledgeable & very friendly staff there - THANKS BREXIT - done properly.

What was the reason for a replacement?
Bi - Xenons fading out ? Mine are 8 years old and I was wondering how are they compare to a new units, since xenons have no filaments only anode and cathode. I can tell, that my bulbs are not as bright as those on lr4, but wonted to know if I can justify a replacement as new bulbs are not cheap

thorgal wrote:....What was the reason for a replacement?
...answer - I realised that the original globes some eight years old were fading ..badly....dipped beam far from good
thorgal wrote:...Bi - Xenons fading out ?
...answer - from what I was told this happens after so many hours in operation...
the removed Xenon bulb looks clean no burn marks
......the transformation is startling
...yes not a cheap option....but whats the cost of pranging you dearly beloved D3?
or killing some pro sod 'cos you can't see them....against the cost of some globes ?
The main beams just a year old (Philips...said to be a ?%increase) were a disappointment - no visible betterment & were quite "yellow"....wont buy these again
The OSRAM Nightbreakers are just awesome
......same task to perform to the FL2 tomorrow.....
I won't leave to so long next time...the XK is the next task with 3 years running & far more night driving journeys...& this doesn't have a Halogen high beam just the Xenon adaptive system. [/quote] BREXIT - done properly.

OK we all know that Amazon may have some branded ones at a bit lower cost...
I use Amazon for some things when the deliveries are good ....on globes for car they just arent reliable
they quote one delivery day & when you check you find its delivery 25 days away.
On another track HID's sent me a leaflet on OSRAM...very interesting
it lists all the lines of bulbs that make & sell...
the one thing I'm interested in is the OSRAM Light@Day DRL's..these use light guide technology & are IP 69K water resistant....I wonder if anyone on her has used or seen these...I need to know just what the fixing possibilities are & what they look like when they are on.
Also if the controls were fitted that shut each corner down when you indicated to turn.
finally - they OSRAM have two apps (Apple & Android)
...one does the applications possibilities for a wide range of vehicles
its called
Vehicle Light
...the other you put a photo of you dearly beloved D3/4 in & you can then visualise the look with DRL's
called Highlights
both from the apps stores BREXIT - done properly.

Thanks for feedback BLFarrar
Xenon bulbs do fade a lot and go from a yellow white to a blue light. I replace every 3-5yrs depending on how much they get used. Anything over 5 you will see a huge difference when you change

So what would be a current bulb replacement for a adaptive Bi-Xenons for 2005 LR3 HSE?I don't really want to go a dealer route here in US as they ere pretty expensive..I would like to know if Osram Sylvania or Philips s the way to go and if possible a part number as well,Thanks
Some say these bulbs should last 10 000 hours or 10 years, but as far as them fading out,3 to 5 years is pretty short, obviously depending on use frequency.
