The winch is wired to the battery in the same way as it was (presumably) previously wired to the main battery, but instead of..........Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

Hi 01coccobet, and I make the Traxide systems.
If you are after a basic dual battery system then there are plenty of options.
If you are after a D3 specific system then I offer a number of options to meet what ever set up requirements you need to meet, with numerous features not found on any other dual battery system.
In your case, where you want to operate an electric winch, any of my D3 USI-160 kits would more than adequately meet your need but would also give you additional benefits.
The USI-160 is specifically designed to allow for joining of batteries while winching.
There are a number of other isolators that can do tis, but most simply bypassing the electronics and link the batteries by turning on the relay/solenoid.
Whereas the USI-160 has a microprocessor as it’s control and if you want to link batteries while winching, you set the switch and the micro then first checks that give perimeters are met, then it connects the two batteries.
While winching, the USI-160 continues to monitor the battery voltages and while it will allow much low voltage operation while winching, than it would allow for normal dual battery operations, it will still disconnect the batteries if you try to take them too low, and this means you will always have a safe charge level in at least one of you batteries, to be able to start your motor.
Another major benefit is that if you forget to switch out of winch mode, unlike ordinary isolators, where they would keep the batteries linked, risking flattening of both batteries, 5 minutes after you turn your motor off, the USI-160 will automatically go back into isolator mode and turn off, separating the batteries.
My isolators and dual battery set ups may be more costly than others but they give far more features, particularly safety features than anything else can offer.
Also, with my isolators, if you want to connect a solar set up, you can connect anywhere in the system and all batteries will be charged. I have a large number of customers with the full set up, giving them an Anderson connection at the rear of the D3 or D4 and this is where many of them connect the solar and again, all batteries are charged.
One more major advantage of my isolators is that they help to keep your cranking battery in a much higher state of charge, something no other isolator can do.
Add to this that all my D3 kits are Plug-N-Play, which means they are far easier and much quicker and simpler to fit, especially if you don’t have any electrical experience and you don’t need any special tools to fit one of my kits.2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7

Drivesafe,
I had a deep look at your "piece of a kit"!!!
I was after a cheap way to have a dual battery kit,
unfortunately yours is out of "range",in Italy we still struggle to get out of the economic recession.
I'll have a look in the case there'll be any group buy or a Christmas sale.
In the meanwhile, what brand/kind of batteries would you suggest for your kit?
Start and Aux?
I'm about to change my starting-one with a VARTA 100Ah AGM,
but may switch if suggested different….
