Anyone localish fancy buying a new Nancom Evo with me??
Just thought I would throw this out there to test the water....
I would love to get my hands on one of the new Nanocom tools and although it's not a major amount of money (around £300 with postage for December), I just can't justify buying one outright. Although I would like to have a mess, maybe a bit of CCF tinkering, sorting out some errors, realistically I don't have the skills or the tools to do many jobs as I'm still very new to doing anything car related, let alone work on a D3!
Anyway, I live in the B47 post code, not far from Junction 3 of the M42 and I was thinking it maybe there are maybe another 3 to 5 like minded people around, may be we can put some money together and buy one.
This new bit if kit looks amazing and can do pretty much anything you can want and is not VIN locked, just model locked.
I know we would have to agree who has it, how it's gets passed around, what happens if it breaks etc etc.... But if might be interested, drop me a line

Though I appreciate you may only want to do a couple of activations at the moment, forgetting that part of the tools function and thinking of what else it does, for what is essence is less than 8 quid a week over the first year for a tool I think personally is a buy and keep tool to have at hand in your glove box when needed.
Sharing a tool I see could cause problems, you may need it to do some fault reading on your car and it will be with owner X, he needs it for 3 more days then it has been agreed to go to the other owner X as he has a fault he is working on etc etc it will end in a fall out.
For less than a gallon of fuel or a packet of fags a week spread over a year of which it would then have covered the cost of this tool, its a must for the glove box if its on your mind to get one even if its only their as a fault code reader.
Even if you dont have the skills to repair your own car you could locate the fault and have a local garage do the repair with the faults you have given them?
I perfonally feel sharing a tool will only cause problems.
Just my 2p worth, and I appreciate its each to their own.

I agree with Pete,
Having your own tools is much better, as what happens if you fall out, someone sells their D3/4
It breaks down etc etc
And if you were to lend it to someone you expect it back promptly in the same condition it was loaned in
Just my opinion.
But I know where you are coming from regarding splashing out a good amount of hard earned cash to have lying in your glovebox, only to be used hopefully a couple of times a year, I think but am probably miles wrong again

To be honest, I've very much got doubts about if it's a good idea or not, all for the very reasons you have said..... but wanted to put it out there to get reactions and the reactions from you guys is clear.
As you say Pete, if you consider the price per week, it's nothing when you look at it like that., especially given what it can do as a piece of kit!
Hmmmm maybe I will give it a swerve as a bad idea and save some dosh up haha.

Money is tight at the moment as my better half is on maternity leave, so only one source of income. Hmmmm will.... See if Santa fancies giving me an advance haha.

Surely some people will be loaning them out for free. My Hawkeye did a fair few laps of the country and I never failed to get it back. Never so much as a scratch on it either; the forum is full of good folk.

I loaned my Nanocom one for the td5 to a friend who said he would only be a few hours with it. Eventually got it back 5 months later as he had loaned it to somebody else. We are no longer friends anymore as you expect friends to be honest so no longer loan tools to anybody.

My experience to date in the forum has been fantastic I have to say. The help and knowledge is amazing
I have now doubt some folks would look after equipment like it's their own and would return it when done . Whereas others would not be..... so careful..... and would pass it on to others / keep it for too long!!
So do I want one?? Definitely!!!!
Do I need one?? Um, yeah
I am also thinking I'm hoping to keep my D3 for some years to come so I do think it would pay for itself quite quickly. If I then go onto a D4, I'm still good to go without the whole cost of a new one.
Still trying to convince myself to buy one
Guess it's just the expense and will it pay for itself given I'm a numpty with cars, but I am learning. Money is always an issue, especially with SWMHO being on maternity but hey, it's like any car, needs work doing from time to time and bought it knowing all of the pitfalls and likely costs... But what a motor!!!!

The trouble with all these systems, they're not always straight forward in they're methods...
It's all well and good spending £300/£600/£900 on the kit, but â€all the gear, no idea†fits perfect here...
Granted, there is a massive online resource for all things Disco related, (the URL of which escapes me at the minute... ) but on Christmas day, half of the regulars will be out in the cold with a new toy and a temporarily defunct D3/4, and the other half will be tucking into their Christmas pudding...
I witnessed this myself when Flack and geoff. were trying to fix my gearbox...
The car threw a wobbler and wouldn't take the firmware, if I'd have been doing it myself, I'd have a brick and called the RAC...
Luckily, those two knew what they were doing, and had plenty of experience and other equipment to get the problem sorted...
