Problems using Pela oil extractor

I've never had much luck with these. Used to have a Seago which eventually got most of the oil out with a lot of faffing to get the end of the tube in the right place. Threw that one away and vowed never to use them again. Had to buy a Pela 6000 for a small marine diesel but decided to have another go with D3. Got about 200 mls out - all I got was hissing noise, not dribbling of oil coming out. Is there a problem with the LION 2.7 engine being too big for the length of the tube would getting a longer hose solve the problem?

No the hose is plenty long enough you are probably shoving it to far in, you have to feel for the bottom of the sump then lift it about 1mm then it should work.

I have one not the Pela 6000 but a Sealy one and its fantastic, you have to get the oil nice and hot and it comes out quickly.

Flack Thumbs Up

I have a Pela extractor. Works well, but if you put the pipe in fully, it loops round and back out of the oil .

If you are struggling, I would suggest judging it against the length of the dipstick, and pump until nearly 6 litres come out Thumbs Up

Also, the oil needs to be warm to work effectively Thumbs Up

EDIT: Too slow Laughing

Anyone used the built-in suck tube fitted to the D4 3.0 yet?

I got about 200mls in an hour - ran engine for 5 minutes first and tried several positions for the pipe - I just think these things don't like me. Tomorrow I'll wrestle with the underfloor plate and drain the sump from below

I thought the idea was to just suck from the top rather than do the catheter thing!

I managed around 1 litre per hour, with the oil stone cold Laughing

Just as well there was plenty of other work to keep me going, while it was doing it's thing
