As above, I've got mine in use down here in Oz. It's a bit more difficult to keep still on a towball that's screwed onto a tongue, as it wants to unwind the ball, but works really well.

out the Atera on yesterday and is looks really solid and the way it slides away to allow you to open the tailgate is great.

i will post some pics after we take it for a test drive up to Lincoln

Is your tow rack the permanent fitment type or a swallow neck? If it's permanent then I've had the Pendle bike rack for years which is brilliant and I've had five bikes strapped to it without any problems whatsoever ... Brilliant bit of UK built kit!! Very Happy

It just pops into the holder which is mounted permanently behind the tow ball and makes fitting within seconds and more importantly it's incredibly safe!!

Best bike rack

We bought the Buzz Rack Quattro from the roofbox co in July; ours was a customer return for about £200. Its easy to fit once you get the hang of the 'claw' that goes over the towball and is then withdrawn into the housing to give a clamping force that is reinforced with the spanner to ensure all is firm on the ball. This is the only point of contact with your car so no straps etc. Once this unit is fitted to the towball it is really solid for a production bike rack. I weigh 70kg and I can stand on it without any worrying flex. We carry four adult bikes and it takes a bit of juggling to arrange the bikes and clamp arms to make sure there is no rubbing.

The best part with this rack is the pivot. When you are loaded up you can undo the front pivot clamp and simply tilt the bikes back away from the tailgate with very little load on your arms as the bike rack pivot is in the centre of the four bikes so the load is balanced with two bikes each side. We also set the rack at a slight angle to the car as this allows us to drop the tailgate too. Point to note here, we have a bolt on towbar and fitted a 20mm spacer to allow the tailgate to drop down without touching anything.

So far we have probably covered 2500 miles with no problems and when not in use I hang it from a towball fitted to the garage wall.

Now the warning! This is a solid rack that weighs just over 20kg with the lighting board. so with four adult bikes you will be glad of the generous 150kg nose weight that Landrover permit. Don't even think of fitting this rack to a normal hatchback towbar.

I've had a couple Discovery(s)(ies) and I've put a hitch mounted rack on each of them and I usually use http://www.hitchanything.com/Bike-Racks/ to buy from. They've got a good selection for all makes and models.
