I had the orange warning appear last weekend literally 100 yards before entering a multi storey car park, which is the only time I ever change the suspension height
I've got no code reader so took a gamble on it being the compressor, removed it (top bolt a pain when the captive chassis nut is rusted up..) and found the larger pipes to be caked up inside the brass sleeve and the push fit receptacle corroded inside. Cleaned pipe end and epoxied a new push-fit fitting onto the pump body, hoping for an easy fix. Put it back, still no good. Then checked the fuse- blown. Hmm, definitely sounded like pump faulty so ordered one from Advanced Factors as a kit with new nuts, bolts etc. Once that arrived I swapped out old pump and fuse and relay. Still got orange warning, immediately upon starting car. Hmm. Pump runs ok when relay linked out. So ecu not demanding air?
Thought perhaps the fault needed clearing, so popped round to local Indy who very kindly plugged in diag... pump motor temp was apparently 200degC! He suspected faulty temp sensor in new pump. Was disinclined to believe him, but he said he'd experienced new pumps being faulty several times in the past.
Weird. Went back, tried plugging old pump back in. No orange warning on starting. Indy was right!
Called AF, they said quickest fix was to buy another pump and return faulty one afterwards (needed car urgently for 600 mile trip next day.) To AF's credit, it was then 4.30pm and they got the new one on a courier for pre-10.30 next day delivery. This morning I removed the pump, and just as I dropped it out the DPD man arrived, the new one was in 20 mins later (getting good at this, even the top bolt!) Jumped in, no orange light, drove 300 miles no probs.
Moral of the story.. when replacing the pump, connect it up and check it works before spending time and skinned knuckles bolting it up tight!
PS. I tore the original pump apart to find the con rod bearings in pieces and the con rod itself sheared. So the new pump was definitely required!

Spent weeks going through various different options on Suspension faults, replaced height sensors, battery etc as was lit up like a Xmas tree.
Found an issue with a wheel speed sensor at the front right which i repaired but the suspension still came up with the fault after a few minutes of running.
Put my machine back on again yesterday and a new fault code came up, C1A20, so looked on this thread, followed the instructions given and my end cap is cracked as well, new one ordered off Ebay for £17.49, hopefully have it tomorrow and maybe at last the suspension will work.
Got to say that this was a fantastic write up by Gruodiz, made it all very simple to diagnose in under 10 minutes.

Morning.....
I too was just about to replace my dryer cap and discovered that the torx head screws are in a bad way.
Can anybody please confirm the bolt length and size so I can order some new ones before I start?
I know they are torx 30 and commonly available but don't want to risk not being able to reuse as I need the car.
Thanks in advance

This is an exelent fix.
Can we do more additional stuff with this? I was thinkin about the preasure inside the reservioar.. Is it possible to fit a pressure sensor thingy and install a display of som sort to tell you what the ressure is? If the preasure just drops, you could detect a leaky air tank

Compressor air dryer end-cap can be replaced in-situ
I had a crack between the red and blue air fittings on the Hitachi compressor dryer end cap. Diagnosed it with soapy water which bubbled away on the end cap. I'd started to get the occasional bing and bong noises with orange warning lamp and error code about taking too long to get up to pressure.
I bought a new end cap from x8r and can confirm it can be fitted it in-situ, takes about 30-45 mins
I intend to buy a kit to rebuild my compressor pump and fit new desiccant in the spring so I'm hoping fixing the end-cap leak will allow the compressor to work a bit less and hold on long enough to get me through the winter.
Tools used:
1/4" drive ratchet
3" extension for 1/4" drive
10mm socket (to remove 2 bolts which secure the compressor cover)
T27 torx bit for 1/4" drive
Adjustable spanner (used to push the red and blue retaining rings back to remove the pipes from the old cap.
Steps:
1) Raise the car to off-road height (if possible)
2) Place axle stand under rear left side of chassis as a minimum, more if you like.
3) Remove air suspension fuse and relay (the ones with the picture of a car and some arrows)
4) Remove the compressor cover (2 x 10mm bolts)
5) Disconnect the power and signal connectors to get better access
6) Use an adjustable spanner to push the red and blue retaining clips back towards the end cap to remove the air pipes from the end cap
7) Undo (but don't remove) the torx bolts leaving them in place with around 10mm of thread showing then gently and carefully lever the end cap out using a flat head screwdriver
8 Keeping in mind there's a big spring behind the end cap, remove the Torx whilst pushing on the end cap
9) Be really careful when removing the end cap so as to leave the filter in place or you could have desiccant beads all over the place and it will be a hell of a job to get them back in without removing the compressor from the vehicle.
I used a screwdriver to hold the spring in the dryer body so I could get the old cap out more easily.
10) Remembering to fit the new seal and re use the old spring, swap the cap over to your new sturdy version by driving the Torx back in evenly a few turns on each one by one so as not to pinch the seal
(Make sure the cut-out for the pipe clip is in the right place to secure the pipe which goes to the red air fitting)
11) Clean the ends of the 2 pipes with a cloth and insert in them into the new end cap air fittings
12) Refit electrical connectors, fuse and relay then test for leaks by running the pump and spraying soapy water on the red and blue pipe fittings and around the end cap seal face.
13) Refit cover, remove axle stand and hope it fixed your problem
Hope this helps someone else.
Scott
