Choosing between D4s

Been driving a 57 D3 SE for 3yrs, but am now fast approaching 100k so think it's time to chip up.

I do about 30k a year in the car, tow a tin tent, 2 kids...you get the picture!

Got a couple of choices I'm pondering which are both about the same cost.

Option 1. XS. 10k miles. Almond leather. 61 plate (rotary gear shift)
Option 2. HSE. 28k miles. Black leather. 10 plate.

Thoughts....?!

XS for sure, it has the upgraded gearbox and probably has everything you are used to.

I've just done this, XS for me. It has enough of the toys to be nice, without some of the gimmicky things in the HSE you dont need (and I'd had a HSE for 6 weeks last year, so knew what you get)

I've also gone for the 8speed XS - better VFM in my opinion

I opted for the HSE, but I was going from a D3 Metropolis so was fully loaded.

There are things that the HSE doesn't have that the Metropolis did, but looking at retro fitting them.

Bet definitely the 8 speed box and SDV6 engine, I am still impressed every time I drive it.

Either the XS is well priced or I suspect the HSE is a tad expensive, if they're both the same price. 12-18 months age difference and nearly 3 x the mileage. I haven't looked at the used market since Dec. 2012 though, so I might be talking Censored

I love having a sunroof, although I could live without one. Most importantly for me the HSE has more seat adjustment and dipping mirrors when reverse is selected. The later can't be retrofitted IIRC.

Dipping mirrors really are extermely useful for me, as I either have to do a 6 point turn midway or reverse down the narrow lane to my house. Even with the reversing camera, I still rely on the mirrors.

I think the memory seat pack that is standard on the HSE, has more adjustment than the non memory seat pack option for the XS (not sure if you can add it to a GS?). Again, really useful for me as being 6ft7" it's hard to get comfy.

Likewise, there's a whisker more interior headroom for me in the HSE, due to the Alpine Roof.

So some of the HSE features really do make a difference for me. If I didn't do long journeys, I'd not be so fussed though. Thumbs Up

If the HSE is in good condition and it is being sold via a dealer, They would have paid approx 28-29.5k for it

I like lots of toys but I'm also a big fan of value for money. In this case I could see me going with the XS but would really be looking for an eight speed HSE and get them to knock the price down to affordable levels Whistle

XS Thumbs Up

The HSE isn't 8 speed and has superfluous extras that aren't significant nor important.

To you maybe.... but then again you like to spend time with your trousers around your ankles watching ladyboys Shocked

It's not a competition ...you either like your toys and have a HSE or Lux ...or you don't and you are satisfied with an XS.

Fundamentally they both have the same great underpinnings Thumbs Up
