Hello people.
We've just ordered a Disco 4 GS in Causeway Grey with bright pack, xenons, privacy glass.......
The dealer said production of this model would not start until 2nd quarter 2014 (March at earliest).
Do they normaly build HSE's first then XS's etc...?
Cheers

No they don't ...demand and supply issues overall. If this years figures and growth are to follow into next year then they will be trying to build nearly 150,000+ motors all on the same line ...somethings got to give and generally that is manifested in wait times 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

It's only October though 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

The Discovery product brief was clear that production of GS models would not start until April 2014 with the order book opening for GS models in March 2014. As DG stated it's all due to supply and demand. Production of 2014 Discovery was originally slated to start on 4th November with first deliveries to customers on 11th but that may no longer be correct. Only 2014 Discovery around at the moment are pre-production vehicles.

Well, 'Stop/Start' does now come as standard...

Cobcot...
Welcome to the forum!
You need to get yourself over to the 'events and meetings' section and sign up for the factory tour - it really is an insight into the whole process.
As Markate has said, the production of the GS model was always scheduled to start production in March 2014 with delivery from April 2014 - this is detailed in the LR briefing document on 2014MY issued to dealers. What is not currently clear is whether the current delay in getting ANY production of 2014 vehicles under way will have any knock-on impact on this scheduled date for GS models.
In terms of production, the line simply keeps moving - something like 400 vehicles per day with body panels, dashboards, wheels and every single component simply turning up on a JIT basis. They can do D4, RRS, D4 HSE etc ad nauseam down the single line without a break in the process.
Simple but effective.
Hope you are interested in the tour - it's good to see the capability that lies behind the vehicles we all drive and you may also find it interesting to meet some of the folks on here... D4 Commercial - 65 Plate, 2016MY
D5 Commercial - Handed back when I left that job…
D4 Commercial (2014MY) - gone
D4 Commercial SDV6 - Baltic Blue (also gone)
D1 300TDi... 2" lift, HD bumpers (both), detachable tow hitch, 9,500lb winch, 235/85/16 muds and plenty of other toys (gone to make way for the next toy...)
Smiles per Mile - Tornado Motorsports caged Evo 3... 100" Defender look-alike, with Range Rover running gear - all fully IVA'd and registered!

Thanks for all the info.
Luckily, we have Disco 3 to take away the misery of waiting.
Cheers
P.S If they put everything together on a JIT basis, why can't they knock a GS up?

They could if they were so inclined but have made a marketing decision to delay production of GS models until April 2014.

Good morning. Just had an email from my dealer saying he's received an email saying build allocations are for January. Wondered if anyone has heard differently?

So, 2014MY really means 2014 delivery? |
|
An 'estimated delivery date' of 28 January was given to me today by my dealer. I 'ordered' (insofar as that meant anything as far as LR were concerned, as I think orders only got input into their - as opposed to the dealer's - system very recently) it on 10 Sept
What are other people being told?
PS Luckily I haven't ordered the Panoramic roof (see RRS forum for tales of woe resulting from supplier delays)

Think the roof issue only affects the new FFRR \ RRS though ...D4's shouldn't be a problem 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Quite. It was a joke at the expense of those FFRR/RRS owners whose orders are being held up because of these particular supply chain issues.

Seem to recall somewhere you need to plan on 10 days from build for it to get to the Dealer, so if built week 1, then week 3 might be about right.
Due to get 2 at work, scheduled for a November build.
