Well here’s my view on it , I own a D4 and I’ve just extended the warranty again Landrover approved, I had a terrible time as in my dealership post , but after getting involved myself and speaking to the manager they just paid for a transfer box replacement, the dealership kept things from the warranty company, this stopped the vehicle being repaired quicker, but as for the engine, I am informed by the warranty company that they will pay for engine failure unless it’s a known fault and then Landrover will pay for it as long as it’s been maintained to dealership specifications by a vat registered company

I'm currently in exactly the same boat. Just been offered a new job that will see me put considerable miles on the D4 which is now on 66,500, and second engine. Every time i jump in i'm sure i hear new squeaks and squeals. I'm still not 100% convinced on the D5 and my initial idea was to wait for the new Defender. But, i have a feeling the D4 may be a money pit this year. D5 will probably need two sets of wheels, 20" with Duratracs for the winter and 21"/22" for the summer on road tires, another bug bear is no place to put a mag mount!

The crankshaft failure is regarded as being a know fault, I would get it in writing from the warranty company.

DG has stated on here that LR will honour the crank themselves as a goodwill gesture provided you have met their service requirements. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Well hang onto your email as there are plenty who had no financial contribution.
It seems to be very hit and miss how warranty companies respond.

Hello from another female D4 driver
We're sticking to our D4 for the time being. Going to see what the defender looks like. I love our D4. The D5 really doesn't do it for me. I have friends with the D5 who are always moaning about the constant trips to the dealership. The shape is kinda growing on me but still wouldn't .... out of principle on a variety of levels.
We sold our last D4 which was 4 years at the time on We Buy Any Car. We got approx. £23k with 48k in miles. To be fair, the D4 is holding is value much better now than before. They sell well. The dealership will always offer you a rubbish amount as they have to stick their mark up on the product to sell for a profit.
Just think of all the luxury manicures you can have if you keep the D4. You'll still be £££ in in the long run My16 HSE Landmark - 2016 - Current. Indus Silver

An email from Land Rover or from a Land Rover dealer? The latter can not make promises for the former with regards to what will or won't be covered by goodwill.
An email from a dealer stating that LR or the warranty company will cover an issue is entirely worthless. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

I’m curious about this. How do you find this happens? Is it that the shock/pain of the styling simply dulls with familiarity over time, or does it actually become attractive?
I’ve driven them for many thousands of miles and the only thing that I’ve noticed is that they tend to look more bloated and tubby with familiarity. What do you find you like more about them with more exposure? 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4

2023 to date: 2 x FL2 as “second” cars 🙄

Marshals at OXford always shifting D4's had 6 last two weeks now down to two seem to shift them no problems and mileage is no issue as the group are selling 2016 with 40/50k miles for £35 k .I would push for more they do seem to struggle to sell D5 but good discounts are coming along now but to me the car is not £55+ k plus...

Good question
I would say familiarity and a number of them knocking around here has dulled the senses. There are still some that make me wince (colour/combo/wheels/nappy colour choice) that makes them look far too Radiator Springs.
I can safely say there won't be one on my driveway any time soon. My16 HSE Landmark - 2016 - Current. Indus Silver
